Lake Valhalla Brides - Help!

I have a question for anyone who has had their wedding at the Lake Valhalla Club:
Did you have a hard time getting in touch with Perry after the contract was signed?  I literally have not heard from him since then.  Not that I expected him to reach out to me just to chit chat.

Recently I have been trying to get in touch with him.  My wedding is under a year away so now I'm starting to come up with a few more questions.  I was concerned about the room size and set up so I reached out to ask if we could peek in and see a wedding set up that will be the same size as ours.  I also reached out to him in JULY to ask about doing the ceremony on site.  I never received a response so we just booked the church (it worked out better for us anyway).

I emailed him over a week ago and just sent a follow up.  I'm starting to wonder if I should start looking at other venues.  If this is a problem other brides have had I'm not sure I will have the patience to deal with that.

So, move on to other venues (maybe) what other venues in the area have a similar feel?  We love the exposed beams and fireplaces.  I cannot see myself having my wedding in a regular ballroom with crystal chandeliers.  It's just not my style.

I know its too early to freak out but I'm just worried that this might be an issue down the road.  Any advice from over LVC brides would be greatly appreciated!!

ALSO, I heard that his fee is 10%.  Is this true?  It isn't in the contract and it isnt' included in the gratuity.  If he wants 10% then I absolutely expect a quicker response time lol.

  • I am not a Lake Valhalla bride, but I'm curious if you have called and emailed? While it can be frustrating, I've found that some places operate by phone rather than email.

Best of luck. I wouldn't give up hope just yet!

  • I heard from Perry this afternoon.  I sent a follow up email last night (and yes I called last week too...though he says its best to reach him by email).  I've heard from people that he can be hard to reach after the contract is signed so I just wanted to see if other people experienced that.

My first unanswered question from was July.  So when I didn't hear back this time I was a little worried.  I understand that its holiday season now...but it wasn't at the end of July.  I expected a delayed response then bc of weddings or other events...but I didn't expect no response.

Everything is good now. We're meeting with him again Friday night to go over a couple more things.  Honestly, I was just worried about the room size.  My cousin just had a wedding at The Grove and she had12 to a table (Round table) and some of my relatives complained that they felt like they were on top of each other.  Perry was planning 12 tops for my wedding too so I just want to see it set so I know it will be enough space.  I know he says it is but I just need to see it.  I'm a visual person.

  • I've been trying to look online to see if I can see a few pictures of 12 to a table there (googling lake valhalla weddings).  I haven't though haha.  Not that I REALLY thought I would.  If a photographer is posting pics on their website they are not likely to post one of an entire seated table.  I just need the visual so I know it won't be too cramped.

How big was your wedding?  Our guest list now is about 150-160.

  • Yay this is very helpful for me too. We are seriously considering LVC for our wedding but haven't signed a contract yet. Did you have any uplighting too by any chance? I've only been able to find two weddings with uplighting (purple and amber), but Im dying to know what it looks like in other colors since i haven't locked down my colors yet.

[QUOTE]We invited 170 and had about 130, and it was quite spacious. So here is a table set for 10, you could easily fit 2 more people at it without it being terribly cramped and the next is how all the tables fit.

  • I actually had a similarly difficult time getting in touch with Perry and nailing down info over the past two weeks, but we haven't signed a contract.

We went November 1 to see LVC and met with Lisa. She quoted us at $118pp total. This is above our budget but she said Perry would call us and we could talk about modifing the menu, mentioning specific things they do to work with people of all budgets. so I was very hopeful.

Perry never called and I spent 2 weeks emailing and leaving him messages. Lisa's phone was disconnected. When he finally sent me emails the info was confusing and contradictory to what Lisa had said. The most obvious example is that she said they don't do events memorial day weekend and he said they did. I finally got him on the phone and he said they won't modify the menu any more than dropping desserts. I felt he was weirdly rude to me, said that he knew which other venues I was considering (he was wrong) and told me that I must not have spoken to Lisa initially, but "some new girl".

LVC was our top choice, and I honestly thought it was going to be our venue, so I'm quite dissapointed. Liatris suggested waiting a few months to see if they would negotiate when it was closer to the date, but I was very put off by the disorganization and rudeness. On the other hand, I haven't found a place I like better....

[QUOTE]We didn't do any special lighting, but I know they dimmed the lights for our spotlight dances. I really liked the feel of the Valhalla room as it was with the fireplace, stone and wood, I think uplighting would take away from that. If you want to see pics of stuff with the regular lighting, PM me and I'll send you the link and password to our photos and you can flip through them.

  • Hi!  I am a LVC bride too - getting married 6-8-13.  How were you trying to contact Perry?  I always just e-mail him and he is usually very good about responding.  I've probably only e-mailed him maybe 3 or 4 times random questions but he does seem to check his e-mail and respond frequently.

Also, I asked him about his 10% fee and he said it is his tip and he only *suggests* 10% but ultimately, its his tip and whatever you feel he deserves. (for the record, I doubt he will get 10% from me, that just seems higher than I've heard you need to give)

    Hope this helps!

  • One more thing!  I have a friend who got married there as well and she said leading up to the wedding, she started to feel that Perry didn't care about some of the things she would ask him.  She started to get really concerned.  Then she said the week of the wedding, when you have your final meeting, he is so on top of things and more than willing to accomodate any of your requests.  She said the night of the wedding, Perry, his wife and the rest of the staff treated her like a queen!  So she told me not to worry if I started to feel like she did. :)
  • I just signed a few weeks ago for Sept 13. He's been patient with me and all of my ridiculous questions so far. We visited a few times and even took both of our parents there one morning while they were setting up for two events and he was so helpful. He really impressed the parents too.
