Advice on choosing location

I am sooo overwhelmed LOL already. and I just started looking for locations. The problem is that we have too many places (in Mexico ) that we are considering, nevermind all the resorts in those places.

Is it easier just to go to a travel agent with no resort in mind and say ...This is a list of what we want....find it for us ?
How did you determine where you were going? And if you dont mind sharing your locataion that would be amazing :)

Re: Advice on choosing location

  • We are getting married in St. Thomas.  We chose that, because we had never been there and even though Mexico was cheap, I couln't get my fiance to go to Mexico becasue he works for border patrol.

Anyways, Yes you can go to a travel agent and tell them exactly what you want and they can help you out.  Also, make sure that it's everything that you want.

  • We had a couple of resorts in mind in PuntaaCana so we gave that list to our TA and had him pull various quotes. He had already gave us some list of resorts within our budget. We went with one of our top choices that was also cost effective for our guests. We only gave our TA our main choices and if needed would have given him additional resort names or have him recommend resorts to us that would be around our budget.
  • We did just that. We found a TA and told her what we were looking for, what we envisioned and she gave us great suggestions! She helped narrow it down quickly. My FI gets overwelhmed so I picked 3 strong contenders and then gave him the option. We're getting married at Secrets Capri Rivera Cancun in October! So excited!

  • I did all most of the research myself, but only because I didn't decide to get an independent wedding planner until a  couple months into the planning, and I wish I had started with a TA / WP to help me navigate through all of the resorts, it was a lot of research that I could have paid them to do.

Not only can the travel agent get a lot of the research done for you, but they generally have so much experience dealing with the resorts that they can help you navigate through some that may look nice on the outside but there are actually issues with once you get there.

  • My parents have always gone to PuntaCana in the Dominican Republic, and even though I've never been there personally, they've had nothing but great things to say about it. They also have "scouted" out the weddings there and everything just sounded good. So all I have to do now is find out which resort I want, and I'll probably ask a travel agent for help there.
  • Have you thought about the Riviera Maya? It's one of my favorite places in Mexico. I would recommend you check out Secrets Silversands. Besides being all-inclusive, Secrets Silversands is also adults-only, has great amenities, a modern chic design and awesome food. The resort also offers a beautiful beach and gorgeous pools. This is definitely the place to go if you want to relax and enjoy some sun. However, you can also tap into your adventurous side by taking on the resort’s great activities such as sailing, kayaking and snorkeling. I have been to other all inclusives, but really enjoyed Secrets because the staff made me feel right at home. Have a great getaway!
