Menards

Anyone here register at Menards?

We tried them out today and we're not sure if we're too happy with them because we are not able to add or remove items online- we have to go to a store to do it. Guests are not able to purchase an item off the registry online- they have to go to a store OR search for it in their website which could be bad because then other guests will not know if a certain item has been purchased. And finally, guests are not able to have a direct link to the registry online- they have to type in our name in order to find the list.

Would you keep the registry if you were me? We thought it'd be a fun idea since we just bought a house and our parents encouraged us to do this. FI's cousin did a registry at Menards too.

  • I personally wouldn't keep it. BUT, if you already have options where they can buy online, I'd consider keeping it. I only wouldn't because I expect a majority of our gifts to be shipped directly to us (since most guests live in Indiana), and having to buy them in store, then also ship them to us would be a pain.

That's not very convenient of them. Menards needs to get with the times! lol One of my BFFs did register with Lowe's a few years back since they had just bought a fixer-upper. I thought it was a good idea, though I didn't personally get them anything from there.

  • I have never heard of this store. There are none in this region so if you have out of town guests who can't get to the store in person, then I would cancel the registry. If you know that your crowd is more likely to purchase in store, then I would stick with it as long as you have a 2nd registry at another place as a back up.

Wow, you're right- I just checked the store locator and apparently Menards is only in the Midwest. We have a lot of OOT guests who are from the east/west coast. We are also registered at BB&B. Guess FI and I will have to talk about this.

    Thanks!

  • I would think with a wide range of people coming from various areas it might not be the best match for your wedding.  I haven't heard of the store either but it looks like a Lowe's/Home Depot which is out here on the East coast, maybe one of those would be better.  It definitely sounds like it would be a pain to change anything in your registry or really monitor it to keep it full.  There are tons of BB&B out here though so at least your east coast guests have somewhere to shop.

  • menard's is an awesome idea for a couple who just bought a new house. however, it sounds like there could be a lot of confusion with the potential double gifting situation. also, i personally would only want to have a registry where you could make revisions and do other registry management online.

i also know when i shop for other couples, i almost always shop online so i can ship the gift directly to the couple through the registry. guests like having this option.

lowe's and home depot don't seem to offer online registries either. however, you might try sears! they do registries and have SO much stuff for the home, and have tons of tools/home fixer upper stuff/etc. since they have their own sears hardware stores.

Sears is a good idea however we don't have a big Sears where we live. We live closer to Menards and Home Depot. Thanks for the suggestion- maybe we will check out the small Sears near here and see what they have!
