just a little excited...

Today my dad told me that my grandmother (his mom) had sent me her handkerchief for me to carry. First of all I was super excited and honored that she would do that for me! I then read the note she attached with the package, it explained that her grandmother (my great great grandmother) gave it to her on her 16th birthday. My grandmother did not know if I wanted to use it because it was "dingy" looking. It is not at all!!! It is a beautiful white handkerchief with blue embroidery on the edges. It is something that I was not expecting at all and I am so honored to have a piece that important with me on my wedding day! So ladies what is your something old? Is it something of lots of importance that has been used by all brides in your family or something super vintage you picked up at an antique store? Can't wait to hear!!!

    That's great!

My something borrowed was a pin that was my Nana's that we pinned to the stem of my bouquet. She passed when I was in 3rd grade, but she was so special to me, that I wanted to make sure a part of her was with me on my wedding day.

Mine was also a handkerchief from my grandmother.  I was at her house in the days before the wedding and told her that I'd like to carry something of hers.  We went to her bedroom and talked about some options and decided on the handkerchief.  I gave it back to her after the wedding.

Aww wow!  That's awesome and so incredibly sweet.

I'm trying to decide on my something old.  My grandmother gave my mom her very first wedding band.  It's pretty old so I'm not sure if I can wear it.  If so, I am either going to wear it or attach it to my bouquet.

If not, I have my great grandfather's Navy ring.  He passed away when my grandmother was 8 or 9 and was her idol.  The ring fits perfectly on my thumb.  It's not pretty but it means a lot to my grandmother, so I'll probably go with it... on my right hand.

I have no idea what I'll use yet, lol.  I was originally going to wear my mom's pearls (old and borrowed), but I am wearing a satin bolero jacket with my dress and it makes necklaces not really an option.  I might borrow some other piece of my mom's old jewelry.

That's a really sweet story.  My something old is the lace my mom is sewing onto my veil to make it a custom veil.  My dad bought the lace when I was born while overseas with the Army, and had hoped that one day it could be used for something for me - baby furniture skirt, or even a wedding accessory.  I think he is just a LITTLE excited... ;-)

I am using an old pendant from a necklace of my Nanny. I will have it threaded with the ribbon my bouquet.

My something old is mom's veil.  I'm borrowing my grandma's pearls, a broach from my great-grandmother for my bouquet, and I'm carrying another great-grandmother's handkerchief that every bride on that side of the family has carried since the 1920's.

Aw you all have such fun stories! I don't have anything like that. I have my something new and blue, but I still need old and borrowed. Time to start talking to my mom and grandma!

I am going to wear the head piece and veil that my mom wore the day of her wedding. My parents will be happily married and in love for 32 years when I get married!
