I'm at the end of my rope...

...with venue-hunting.  Can anyone help?

I'm looking for a fun, unique venue that doesn't cost me a year's salary.  It seems like every place I've seen in my budget is either too boring or just doesn't have the right vibe for me.  The places are like cost twice what I want to spend.  I'm not looking for something super cheap, just "affordable."

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Like I said, I'm looking for something unique and fun... with a pretty ceremony area.  Outdoors would be awesome, but it's not a requirement.  We're not into gardens.

Am I asking too much?

Maybe somewhere on the lake- either lake Conroe or Clear Lake area if you don't like gardens? Sorry, not sure what you are excluding already.

Thanks for the thought.  I've looked into Lake Conroe a little bit, but haven't explored Clear Lake very much.  I'll look into it.

What is your price point? I have a few things in mind, but it is a lot easier to suggest stuff when I know how much you can spend. :)

I can flex a little provided I find a place I really love, but I want to keep the reception costs (meaning basically food, booze, and venue rental, but not including music or flowers) under 12K.  I'm going to have about 130 people.  Is that totally unrealistic?

I just booked the Garten Verein in Galveston and it was sooo cheap! Its a gorgeous historical building located in Kempner Park and I got it for 7 hours for only 1,700.00 plus a refundable 300.00 deposit. I love it!

I am having my ceremony and reception at Safari Texas Ranch. I won't lie, when I drove up the first time I was a little worried about the exterior, but I ended up loving the room I picked. Our ceremony will be outdoors at their lovely gazebo. The pricing is definitely in your range.

Nana - Thanks for the suggestion.  I'll definitely check it out.

Mtsoo - I actually just sent Safari Texas Ranch a request for info this afternoon!  I can't wait to hear back from them.  Thank you!

Have you looked at The Gallery? http://www.thegallery-houston.com/ It is definitely a little bit different from the norm, and allows for outside vendors and such. They also have an area for an outdoor ceremony. I loved it, but my date was booked.

Also in Galveston is The Lyceum. http://www.lyceumgalveston.com/ It is like the Gallery where you pay for rental of the facilities, then bring in your own vendors. It is gorgeous on the inside and lets you organize it however you wish.

Cullen's Restaurant in Pasadena also offers some unique packages. I went to a wedding where they rented out their "live" part of the restarant and had a two story lounge for the reception. It was laid back and a lot of fun...

I am getting married at the Admiral on Clear Lake. The way I was able to make it affordable for me is to have it on an off day. We are getting married on 10.11.12 which falls on a Thurs. I have to wait a little while longer but it makes the venue of my dreams affordable. Just a thought. :) Good luck! Also you can do weddings on a boat in Clear Lake very close to that price range. Check out. http://www.thebigwhiteboat.com/

You could look into Agave Road in Katy, if you haven't already. It may be a little out of your pricepoint but it GORGEOUS and very unique. We got married at Agave last Novmber and is was AMAZING. They include a ton of stuff in the packeges, even gratuity so it might not be that out of your price range.

Kim -- I did look into Agave Road and I liked it a lot, but something about it didn't "feel right" to me.  I wish I could explain it, but I can't.  It fit into our budget perfectly, since their prices include almost everything, but I just didn't feel like I could see myself getting married there.  Weird, I know.  I'm really picky -- that's part of the problem.

Everyone else -- thanks for the suggestions.  I'm looking into all of them.
