Florist

So I am getting married in October of 2011.  One thing I need to find is a florist.  I am more concerned with finding my bridemaids dresses so I can decide on the color theme.  Any advice to whether I should just start looking for a florist now or wait until I have an idea on the colors and the flower types.  Also any suggestions of who are some good reasonably priced florists.  I am paying for this myself and want to keep it within budget.  Thanks!

Personally, I had several flowers that I loved (calla lillies and hydrangea) that are also relatively easy to get at the time of year that we're getting married (in April) and I chose colors that would work with those flowers. Certainly though, you can choose your colors first and then work flowers in around that. If you're on a budget, you might want to look into what flowers are in season as that may affect the prices/quotes.

We hired Florals by Alisa for our wedding. Their prices are very reasonable and they're really responsive. Jay at Golden Gate Studios is also really great. I know that many brides have highly recommended the Whole Foods in Cranston for flowers as well. This might be a good option, too.

Another vote for Florals by Alisa and Golden Gate. Whole Foods seems also a great option too but I believe the Cranston location does not deliver. I also highly recommend Blooming Blossom on Hope Street in Providence - super nice, budget friendly and payment plans flexible too.

I am working with Toni Chandler. She will work with any budget. I actually found Golden Gate to be more expensive. Hope this helps!

Also... I booked my florist only with a general idea of what I wanted. I've found vendors in RI book very quickly!

We used Florals by Alisa.  I knew some of the types of flowers I wanted, but everything else I wanted to just be whatever was in season.  They can price based on that.  In-season flowers are more affordable.  Also, know what flowers you DON'T like.  And how many attendants you'll have along with ~ number of guests so they can figure out # of centerpieces, if you want those.  I wanted wreaths on the church doors too.

We only met with FbA and cancelled all other appts. afterwards.  They are lovely.  We booked in April 2008 for our October 2009 wedding.  (I did already know I wanted grey BM dresses though - so flowers really could be any color....we chose pink.)

I am also thinking of calla lillies for my October wedding. I also checked into Cranston Whole foods and because they do not deliver doesn,t work for me. I am thinking of Blooming Blossom also, because they are budget friendly.

I met with several of the florist mentioned above. For pricing Florals by Alisa and the Cranston Whole Foods were very close for the same exact request. With that taken away it was an easy decision to go with Florals by Alisa. Pictures of their flowers are amazing. Everyone else had a quote 2-3 times theirs.

We used Whole Foods in Cranston and paid hundreds and hundreds less than the quotes of all of the others we met with, some of whom are mentioned here. I paid $94 plus tax for my bouquet, two nosegay clutches for moms, a wrist corsage for his Nana and three bouts. I will sing their praises at every opportunity because the cheapest price I got for my bouquet alone from the others was well over $100 and as much as $200.

It's fine to book a florist without an exact idea of colors. Just bring ideas of what kinds of flowers you like and you can talk about your ideas. Maybe the floral options can even help you narrow your color choices for the BMs.

I used Flowerthyme (out of Wakefield) and absolutely LOVED my flowers! I thought they were excellent to work with too, esp within a budget!

I too used Golden Gate Florist.  Jay was able to adapt to my vision very quickly.  We used a variety of flowers, calla lilies, hydrangea, bells of Ireland, roses, billiballs, spider mums and gerberas for a Sept 25 wedding.   The flowers were gorgeous!!

I am using the Whole Foods on Waterman, they are litterally half the cost of the other florists' quotes, and they deliver.  Food for thought.

another Golden Gate. We just booked them for our April wedding! They were our first choice, and received many reviews from Vendors about them as well.

I used Golden Gate for my October wedding. I booked them early, before we had dresses. I originally wanted a burnt orange color for the dress and I ended up with slate gray. The idea for my flowers stayed the same though.

I wanted bright bold flowers with lots of yellow and orange. They came out great!
