Beer drinkers, number of beer question.

How may beers would you drink at a 6 hour reception? (This is assuming you will not be getting smashed.)

FWIW: We are having beer and a specialty drink only. No wine.

Honestly, I'd probably have maybe 2 or 3.

At least 6. Probably closer to 10. I tend to drink a little more than one an hour.

3-4. If I'm at a reception and everyone is on the dance floor I won't have that many.

Ditto. And I know any male who would be at my wedding would be more.

Also depends on what kind of beer. For example if it's Bud Light I'm going to drink a lot more of those than if it was something a little "nicer" or heavier or with a higher alcohol content.

Hmmm anywhere between 3-6 probably.....I'm usually a "one an hour" kinda girl, but might slow down if I know someone else is footing the bill.  Most guys I know would usually drink around the 6+ range.....

Fi can down 5 Guinness in a night, but any other beer I think 3 would be his limit.

But I know a lot of people that can drink 1-2 beers an hour.

I think the 1 an hour is pretty accurate.

We are going to have a mixture of nicer beers and lighter ones.
So you think if we purchased 6 beers per person (I am counting only people that will possibly drink. A lot of FIs family don't drink. I think there are 30 guests that may drink on our guest list.) it would average out? We don't want to have a ton of beer left over and I also don't want people to over drink and drive. So I would rather run out than have people drink too much.

Me either. I hate beer and would be irritated that there's no wine

Any chance you can talk to your beer supplier/distributer whatever you use in your state about returning unopened cases? I know some places in PA and DE do this. With my family 6 per person would leave us with enough beer leftover to sink a ship, but then again my family can barely finish off a six pack at the holidays.

Even if they're also doing a mixed drink?

Fawn, I think 6 per person is probably a good bet.  If you can afford it, I'd recommend going up to 6.5-7 just to be on the safe side, though.  When FI puts his mind to it, he can down them pretty fast....when he doesn't, he gets through about half a beer in an evening :)

If it was a mixed drink I didn't like yeah I'd be irritated. I know what wines I like but not what their mixed drink would be

We only have 2 wine drinkers that I know of. It wouldn't be worth the money to offer wine. If they don't like what we have to offer, they don't have to drink it.

I'd drink probably 4.  FI would probably be in the 6-8 range.

2-3 for me .... but I'd more likely stick with the mixed drink anyway Smile

I wouldn't be irritated with no wine.  Even though I'm obviously of the age to drink I just don't and never have.  I know it seems unhelpful to post on this but I was just trying to be the outlier who wouldn't drink, because there will be guests who don't drink (don't like to or are DD)
  • Options
I agree with the 1 an hour. I could do 1 an hour, however I know FI could do 2-4 an hour.  I would also start with the mixed drink, then switch to beer. I can only handle so much liquor before I need to switch.

    Thanks for the link!! :D

SO, that link says that if we have 30 average drinkers, we would need 105 bottles of beer and 6 liters of liquor!
When we used to party, we had over 30 people and never went through that much liquor! We would get one liter of vodka, and a bottle of malibu rum and a bottle of something else. That would be enough for our party. (People would bring stuff also, but not a lot.)

Does this sound like a ton to you?!

depends on the group. In my family, we take our drinking seriously. 6 liters of liquor at a wedding would be about the right amount. Maybe. As long as someone is playing dd.
