Reception Sites/ Caterers

Hi I am newly engaged and am trying to get started with my planning of a Toledo area wedding.  My fiance and I are paying for the wedding ourselves and since I'm still in school, we don't have a very large budgetI"m just wondering if anyone knows of any nice reception halls that are affordable. Also we did look at one hall that allows us to bring in our own caterer and alcohol.  Which I figure will save us some money.  Does anyone know of any good affordable caterers?  What can I expect to pay per person ?  Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!  I'm just starting out and  need all the help I can get!

Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} This place is not really advertised, but awesome place if you don't mind driving to Marblehead, OH. All our guests are excited about the location, though they have to drive... Location is next door to the Marblehead Lighthouse and absolutely gorgeous! ST. MARY'S SOCIAL CENTER 507 E. MAIN ST. MARBLEHEAD, OHIO 43440 There is a gazebo you can use for the ceremony on the water behind the center and if you want... you can pitch a tent and remain outside or use the air conditioned St. Mary's Reception Hall behind the gazebo. Not to mention across the street is the LightHouse Resort for guests to stay! Very convenient. Oh and the Lighthouse resort just built a small venue that hold upto 80 people – good location for rehearsal dinner!    I will post the pics I took when I looked at the St. Mary’s Social Center location. Though we are not getting married at the gazebo, we are using the hall and lighthouse resort. Do note that there are may fly/june bugs outside in this area depending on the date of your wedding…. Ours is in June but we don’t mind…   Now the cost for the hall $1200 + $300 deposit you will get back… You put down $600 cash to reserve the date… This may sound expensive initially, but they let you in on Wed or Thur to start decorating… this allows you to do yourself!  Also, no restrictions for food/alcohol..   Here is the best tip I’ve gotten to help out with reducing expenses..   We are not planning on doing a bridal shower, but instead a Wedding shower – co-ed!... My friend is going to throw it and call it a “Stock the Bar” Wedding Party! Basically anyone can come and if they bring for the future wedding beer, liquor, wine, or $5+ toward keg they get a ticket for a drawing to win a prize…kind of like the diaper party!  Major way to keep alcohol cost down!   Then have friends/family make food for reception to keep costs down even more.. even if they just did pre-dinner items that would be no tax/tip on at least that portion!    Work with a caterer that will do just the main meal…   just a few ways to get an awesome location on the water that looks like you spent a ton! v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";}   Lake front view, next to the Marblehead Lighthouse

Thought of another one... Camp Perry Lodging & Conference Center... http://www.cplcc.com/#... You can also bring in your own liquor here, but I think you just have to have a licensed cater.

I don't know if anyone else has told you about City Barbecue over on Central down by the BW3's if that helps. We got our choice of 2 meats (Pulled Pork & BBQ Chicken), 2 sides(Mac n Cheese & Smashed Potatoes') plus we got half a thing of corn bread. For everything minus the corn bread it cost us 9.25ish or so per person. The corn bread was $60 for half a sheet of it or something like that. For the hall we are using Tremainsville Hall on Tremainsville road. They are really really afford from the other places I looked at. We paid $550 for a hall that seats close to 300. I think there rates went up to $650 this year though. We booked last year so we got that rate.We are already to bring in our own caterering and alcohol. Plus we didn't have to buy a liquor license since we are having an open bar. If you choose to charge for alcohol then you have to have the liquour license.

The Hankison Room at the W.W. Knight preserve is pretty reasonable and it is gorgeous. It only holds up to 120 people though. Also check out Oak Openings - they also have a hall that I think holds more people. Here is the link for W.W. Knight. http://www.woodcountyparkdistrict.org/WWKHankisonGreatRoom.htm Our caterer is pretty reasonable. We are using Ida's. You may also want to check out Boston Market - I've heard it's really good and affordable. Good Luck!

Hey Hamo,Sorry it took so long for me to reply. I don't really frequent the boards. Country Catering  is run by Butch Molnar and you can reach him at (419) 691-3056. Their food is very simple nothing too fancy, but everything is homemade and tastes excellent. We went to a tasting at a wedding a couple months back and so many people had come up to us while we were there and some had used them at their wedding years ago and said they still get compliments on how good the food was. And for the price you just can't beat it!They have other deals too. I think they start out at like one meat, potato, veggies, salad bar, and rolls for $9.95.Hope that helps!!

The Event Center in downtown Toledo is a great place to go and they just lowered their pricing of their menu.  Check them out at www.toledoeventcenter.com

I have St. Mary's booked for July 21st. It's an awesome venue, but after we booked them they told us that the gazebo that we had planned on using for the ceremony will no longer be available for us to use. So we're a little upset about that, but we're still going to have the ceremony right outside, in front of the lake. Send me an email & I can send you some pictures & give you some more info if you need it! MWright8168@gmail.com (changed it since my last post lol)
