Invite wording

Hi! I'm working on our invitations right now, and I cant decide whether to use the word marriage or wedding in the invitation. Is there a difference between saying,

Request the honour of your presence at the wedding of their daughter
Request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter

or is it just a personal preference? Thanks!

Re: Invite wording

  • I have only seen "at the marriage of" but I think that is just the popular choice and that it is personal preference. I like marriage better than wedding. I think it just sounds like it has more sustenance to it.

I agree with all of this.

  • I say marriage. I just think it sounds more meaningful since the wedding is for the marriage, not the other way around.
  • I say marriage. The wedding is a one day thing, the marriage is the lifetime. People go to a wedding to witness to a marriage.
  • Okay, marriage it is! Thanks ladies!
