f/u Open Bar - how does this sound?

Hi,

I asked before about various Open Bar options.  Thanks a lot for all the advice!

We found out that wine pour is included with dinner, which we did not know before.  So, this is what we are thinking.

* cocktail hour - one hour of open bar

* dinner - wine only, close the bar (but bartender is there, so soft drinks available free of charge)

* after dinner - 2 hours of open bar

This includes the 3 hours of open bar that come with the package, so that we don't have to buy any more.  We do have to pay for the bartender to be there those two extra hours, but that's not terrible.

Does this sound ok?  Do you think it will be confusing to people?  We will make sure the DJ announces when open bar reopens.  We asked for soft drinks to be on the tables the entire time.

Thanks!

3 hours of open bar comes with your package???
that's awesome- where are you getting married!???

How come open bar can't be "open" during dinner?? what if someone doesn't like wine and would prefer a mixed drink or beer of some sort?? (just a thought)

The bar can be open during dinner.  We are choosing to split the 3 hours into before and after dinner since there will be alcohol with dinner.  We could keep it open during dinner, too, but that would cost 2 more hours of open bar, which is ridiculously expensive.

I think that's great. I also think it is somewhat common for the full bar to be closed during dinner, so it shouldn't be too confusing. You might want to mention to your friends that you know will want mixed drinks that they should grab it at the end of the cocktail hour, but people will survive on wine for dinner.

It would be good if the open bar starts up again as the dancing starts up, even if it means you paying for, say, an extra half hour of it.

I think it sounds great and it seems to fix your problem with the open bar costs.

I'm doing the same. To have an open bar the entire time is way too expensive. We have the 1 hour open bar (but wine and beer only) during the cocktail reception from 4 to 5. Then from 5 to 6:30 the bar will be closed for dinner and cake. Then at 6:30 it will open again (beer and wine only) for 2 hours up until half an hour before the end of the reception. We're doing a charge by consumption. It was either this or cash bar, and I REFUSE to have a cash bar. If people want hard liquor, there's a bar downstairs at the hotel and they can go purchase drinks there. FI and I are not big drinkers so this works for us!

Don't worry about dinner, people will have their drinks from cocktail hour if they want something mixed. I know I'm grateful for any free booze that comes my way, so it's good that you have wine during dinner. I don't think you need the dj to announce anything, but maybe have the bar have a sign that indicates when the bar is open and when it changes over to cash. We changed over to cash for the last hour of our reception so if people wanted to drink before getting in their cars, it was on their dollar. Most people were drinking coffee by then anyways.

We did the same, except we had 3 hours after dinner. We put a small sign on the bar, that it would be closed during dinner. I have it in my For Sale if you want it :)
