Registry Prices

Though everyone keeps telling me no one will buy a gift for a wedding and will just give money, we have a registry. Items range from $15 (two towels) to $250 (stand mixer) with the huge bulk of items between $20 and $65. Is that "right"or "good"? Should we have more lower priced items? There isn't really much at Target or BBB (our two registries) that we need or want below $15 - if we should have way more in that range, any suggestions? Thanks!

    I think anything under $25 is a good price for someone who can't/doesn't want to spend a lot of money. The bulk being between $20 and $65 sounds about right to me.

    We have 20 items on one registry and 15 on the other.

    I think what you have sounds fine.  Don't register for things you don't want/need to add lower-priced items.  If people don't see anything on your registry in their price range, they can always buy you something else off-registry, get you a gift-card to one of the stores you registered at, or give you cash.    Guests have plenty of options when it comes to gift-giving, and a registry will lead them in the right direction and give them ideas:-)  What you have sounds just fine.

    Around here, people don't give physical gifts for the wedding, but they do give them for a shower. Out of our 80 guests, we received ONE physical gift (at the wedding). The rest were all cash/checks. So, if someone throws you a shower, this registry would be very helpful. I also think your price range seems just fine.

    That seems fine to me.  I know I would appreciate that you have items under $20.

    It sounds fine to me. You have to remember too, that the guest are supposed to cover their plate at the wedding in gifts. So if you have a $45 meal the gift should be equivalent and so on. Just as long as you have enough items to work with that you'll be fine.

    I think that sounds about right. I think it was good to create a small registry, the past 2 weddings I have been too, I would say there were at least 10 gifts on the table.

    This is absolutely untrue. Giving a gift for a wedding is a choice of the guest - not an admission fee. The guest, if he/she would like to offer a gift,will select something in his/her price range and probably the value would vary depending on the closeness of the guest to the couple. The cost of the meal has nothing to do with the value of the gift. How would a guest even know how much the meal costs??

    From reading on here, this seems to be a regional thing. It is very common around NNJ to 'cover your plate' when you attend a wedding. Of course, you don't know the exact amount the couple spent, but you can make a good guess when you attend a wedding at a VFW or at the Four Seasons. Of course, you only give what you can afford, but that is used as a guide. <div>
    </div><div>Around here, physical gifts are only given at the shower and cash/checks at the wedding. If that's the same by you, OP, I wouldn't worry too much about having registry items that match the per person cost. </div>
