We are thinking Riviera Maya is our best bang for our buck with air. Does anyone recommend a resort there? I have read some reviews but they are kind of mixed.
Do you think if we went with a resort that allows kids it would be super packed with little ones at the end of August as the week we are honeymooning is the week school goes back in the US? (Aug 20-27th Mon to Mon)

Also, my biggest thing is this: Do I splurge on a high end room in a 3 to 4 star resort (swim up, jacuzzi, ocean views etc) OR do I go for the 5 star and take a basic room? I mean, we probably won't be sleeping all day or hanging out in our room as we want to do things like go into the town and explore, obviously lie around at the pool and the beach, eat great food and have some cocktails!
