NWR: Negotiations going poorly

So one of the first tasks given to me at my new job was to help find a new studio space. I showed my boss several spaces which she thought were ok (VERY limited spaces in our area) and then 1 that she fell in love with.

Well long story short, against my advice she made him a supper low offer (about -125/month) + several exchange of services perks (note: I'm the mouth piece so this all goes through me first). After taking over a week to "consider" the offer (which included a 2 year lease and several "fixes" - it's an old 1900s building) he refused with no counter offer.

Fast forwared, the boss went in to see the space again and still really loved it. So we offered to pay full price with a 1 year lease as long as the repairs were made. Now he's saying that most of the major repairs wont happen because we had been discussing a longer lease (which HE rejected in our offer).

The boss isn't mad at me, but she is upset with him. (I hate seeing people cry). Feel like if we do give-in more and move in he's going to be the most awful landlord. ugh. what to do?

Re: NWR: Negotiations going poorly

  • I would say try to find another space. I know you said it is limited in the area but I agree that even if you do give in he will be horrible for a landlord. Sorry I know it is stressful. I used to work for a rental house company.
  •  I wouldn't work with him under any circumstances.  Sounds like he wants all and gives nothing....you are on the wrong side of that stick!
