Tasting Before Booking

Hello Everyone,

My fiancé and I just starting looking at venues. Does anyone know what venues let you do a tasting before booking. The food is really important. We think its crazy to book a place for 40k and not know what the food is. I have been to so many wedding and the food not food. We want our guest to really enjoy the menu. Thanks everyone.

Re: Tasting Before Booking

  • We did a tasting before booking at the Greycliff. I believe they usually do it as an open house once a month, but because I have a food allergy (and because I was looking for a caterer that could accomodate my food allergy) they offered to do a private tasting for up to six people, with no deposit or anything. They're wonderful!

  • The Primavera Regency does a food tasting before booking.  You actually put a partial deposit down to hold your date before the food tasting, but if you aren't happy with the food, they refund the money.  I believe they have the tastings monthly.
  • Mayfair Farms does a tasting before booking...and I found it delicious :)

<div>My venue, Ravello's, does this also.  It gave us great peace of mind that our date was on hold but we would get our money back if we weren't satisfied after the tasting.</div><div>

  • My venue, Clarks Landing, invited us to a big tasting event around the time we were looking to book.  Many of the venues we looked at didn't offer the option of tastings before booking, but keep your eyes out for bridal shows being hosted at various venues.  Many will offer at least cocktail hour food so you can see what that is like.

Our wedding is at Valenzano Winery which is in South Jersey but our caterer,  The Ultimate Caterer, is based out of Marlboro. We did a tasting with them (at no cost) before we booked them for our wedding.

  • Our venue the Old Tappan Manor did not do a tasting before booking, however, if we did not like the food at the tasting they would refund our deposit. We did our tasting shortly after booking our October 2013 wedding and we loved the food thankfully.

  • We were married at the Palace in Somerset and food was our #1 priority.  They would do a private tasting prior to booking for $250, then that would be credited towards your contract (this was 2 years ago, not sure if they still do).  We knew the food was great so we opted not to do it.

  • My venue (Somerset Hills Hotel) didn't offer a tasting before the booking but they do have an in house restaurant that my FI tried before signing the contract. It at least gave us a "taste" (no pun intended) of what we can expect during our wedding.
  • I just had my tasting at The Elan and we had a fantstic time...It was a private tasting for my family and the Chef was reallly involved and offered to sit with us to plan our menu for the wedding.  We are about to make our final decision on our location but they really impressed us.
  • btw...love your ring!!

  • Westmount does tastings every Sat and Sun for their cocktail hour food.  It was the only venue I saw that offered us food and drinks prior to signing anything.  And every time I went back we got to eat more of the food - which was great because I loved it lol
  • I did a tasting at Westmount also! It was pointless because I've been there 4 times in the last 2 years and I know their food is  great, but I figured I would get my money worth ;)
