I've been really happy with Carolyn at All About Events.  I called a couple of other ones: Kelly Sherlock, New Orleans Celebrations, which were all kind of pricey.

Are you looking to hire a full wedding planner or a month of coordinator?  A full wedding planner will cost 10% of your total budget with a minimum of $3,500.

Most month of coordinators will start at about $1,000 and will go up to $2,000+

I chose Nikki with 318 Designs and so far so good. Very responsive and has a lot of contacts which is good since I'm a oot bride. Prices were reasonable. Good Luck!

I discovered in my search that most will be flexible with their packages to meet your needs, so keep that in mind.  I started by searching reviews on this board, emailed at least 4 or 5 of them to get preliminary pricing and package info, and then had phone meetings with 3 of them.  On TK and a couple of other wedding websites, there are good lists of what to ask prospective coordinators (or you can google it and come up with some).  In the end, I made my decision based on who could best meet my needs (I wanted something way more than day of, but didn't need the full on start to finish planning), for a reasonable and fair price (yes, it is not cheap but you have to decide where this fits in your list of priorities), and based on the connection in our personalities.

You need to decide if you are looking for someone to "coordinate" closer to time of your wedding, or to "plan," meaning provide you assistance/advice/contacts throughout the process.  I suspect most month of coordinators would be happy to give you advice throughout as well (just make sure to clarify what they will and won't do, and if they are going to charge you for those extras).

I chose Kelly Sherlock and I am convinced it will probably be the best decision I will have made in this whole process.  I am a super organized, Type A+ control freak, and it has given me a peace of mind I never expected to have that Kelly is just as on top of things as I am, not to mention the tons of practical advice and recommendations that a good planner provides.  HTH and good luck!

I went with Merideth with Belle Soiree. She was very reasonably priced compared to other wedding planners in the city, and she says she knows how to work with a budget. So far so good.
