$500 Wedding Cake Budget for 225 people

Hello fellow ladies, I am looking for a place in Macomb Or Oakland Country that can make me a cake for $500 that would serve 225 people. Does anyone have any affordable recommendations or bake shops no one knows about? It seems every small baker is getting discovered and their prices go sky-rocket from that point on!I definitely want a buttercream frosting cake over fondant which I know is cheaper. I would prefer to not have sheet cakes, but I will only do that if it is an absolute must. Also, I am not really into extremely ornate cakes which also cost more so I think my budget is doable I just need some help. Thanks! :)

    Try Sweet Dreams Bakery in Warren. A friend of mine used them and it was pretty good and I know they're on the more affordable side!!

    Try Josef's bakery in Grosse Pointe.  I had a 4 tier cake and 2 sheet cakes for a little over $600.  I bet you could totally work something out with them for $500.  A 4 tier cake serves 100 people and then a sheet cake serves 100 people.  So I still had a nice cake and a sheet cake.  GL!

    A four tiered 14-12-9-6 cake at Graf's in Farmington Hills is $330. Not sure the price on sheet cake, but their cakes are yummy!

    Mr. Cake in Ann Arbor.  He works out of his house so it keeps the cost down.  We've got 4 flavors and it's only $1.80/slice!

    Really? I was always under the impression Josef's would be super expensive because they are in Grosse Pointe! Thats good news! How was the cake? Pictures??

    I used Josef's too, and had what Cori described (4 tier and sheet cake in back). Mine served 200, and it was just over $600. But, I had 2 batters and I had 2 fillings (choc mouse and raspberry). I probably could have gotten it under $600 without the fillings...not sure if I could've gotten it to $500. Their cake is fabulous!

    Design came from one I found on Tk, my florist did the flowers (though Josef's would've done that too if I'd bought the flowers and brought them to the bakery ahead of time.)

    I used Holiday Market in Royal Oak.  I got a two tier chocolate cake with a chocolate ganache filling with pink flower petals for $100.  It served 25 people.

    Try Chene Modern Bakery in Detroit.  Out of all the cakes we tried, theirs was the most moist; every other place we went bakes their cakes a couple days early, but Chene bakes them that morning.  They're also very reasonably priced!

    Try East Detroit Bakery on 9 mile in Eastpointe. 

    I was going to use them but I had a family member offer and make mine.

    I second Holiday Market. We had a smaller cake that served around 100 for $180, it was simple but absolutely delicious! We had yellow cake with a Passion Fruit Mousse in the middle, all 4 of the fillings we tried with yellow cake were amazing.

    Also, look into Sweetheart Bakery. There's one on Van Dyke in Warren (attached to Michelle's Restaurant), and I think another in East Detroit. I ordered a 50th anniversary cake for my parents from there and it was delicious. They do more traditional decorating.

    Both of the above were made with buttercream, but Holiday Market makes it really smooth and look like fondant if you want that look. Pic of our cake below.




    You can't see it unless you click on the cake picture, but I wanted edible pearls on the cake. I found some at Heinreich's Cake and Candy shop on 10 Mile in Centerline, just east of Van Dyke, and took them to Holiday Market. They placed them sporadically on the cake, and the pearls matched the pearls on my dress. They'll do anything to make you happy.
