NWR: Health Insurance?

Hi Ladies,

Hopefully you can help me out here.  FI & I recently moved to New Hampshire from MA.  Both of us are currently on our parents' health insurance plans until our September wedding.  At the moment neither of our jobs offer health insurance, however my office is trying to get it set up.  That may or may not happen prior to the wedding.  If they can't get the insurance set up in time, we are considering going without for a brief period until we can get it through my company.  Is there any kind of penalty in New Hampshire about not having health insurance? I know in Massachusetts, health insurance is required and if you do not have it, there's a hefty fine to pay.

Any information anyone can give me would be great, because surprisingly I cannot find any information!!
Thanks,
LJ

No, there is no penalty in NH for not having health insurance.

    Thanks for the responses!

You think you'd be able to find this information on the NH gov't insurance website, but there's not even a FAQ on their....

If you need care during the period when you are un-insured, check with local area hospitals as most offer financial assistance and/or charity care for those who are in need.  Usually it requires all of your financial documentation, but it's worth pursuing in case you have an emergent healthcare issue.

Under the federal health care reform act, your parents can continue to cover you up to age 26, even if you are married and even if you no longer live with them.
     (I know--this sounds crazy--but it's true).

You would have to stay on YOUR parent's insurance and your FI would have to stay on HIS parent's insurance.  Neither parent can cover their children's spouses.

    See link below:

NH has no penalty for being uninsured at this time.  However, if you're older than 26, then Anthem Blue-Cross-Blue-Shield has some rather affordable private-pay health insurance plans, (look for the Tonik plan), if you're interested in transitional health care coverage and can afford to pay premiums of around $200-something a month.  HTH.

I would stay on your parents insurance until it is available to your thru your company. Especially in case of any types of pre existing conditions which can make life difficult if you go a period of time without having insurance. That is something to look into too, I've heard people have issues with group insuracnce vs individual insurance when they have pre existing conditions.

I wouldn't go without health insurance for an hour, never mind a few months. Health is something I wouldn't ever take for granted.
Can you stay on your parents' insurance plans until your work offers it? Look into plans through different insurance companies.
My mom's employer wouldn't insure me after I graduated from college, so I got a plan through Anthem that was pretty affordable. Please, please, please look into this before going without health insurance!
