Not Engaged Yet

You know what really grinds my gears...

When people who are not engaged list their relationship status as 'engaged' on Facebook. I have tons of friends that do this. No. No matter how serious your relationship is, you're still 'in a relationship.' What's so wrong with that? Save the changed status for when you actually get engaged.

Back when I was a wee beebee, I had my status listed as engaged too. But then I got a swift kick in the behind from logic. If you already have your status listed as 'engaged,' what are you going to do when you're ACTUALLY engaged? Grr.

Now you go. What grinds your gears?

And you know what else grinds my gears? You America!
    Oh Peter Griffin.

    Things that grind my gears:
    - People that are visiting my upstairs neighbours but park in MY parking spot in MY driveway so I have to park on the street half a block from my house.  ITS MY DRIVEWAY!

    - When you invite people to your home and they take advantage of your hospitality

    - When FI leaves his clothes on the floor.  I'm going to fight him soon.

It grinds my gears when I wind up putting my foot in my mouth (proverbially, of course). I was talking to BF's sister about engagements and finances, and said something like, "My feelings are that if you can't afford an e-ring, you probably shouldn't be getting married." She then tells me her e-ring was paid for by credit and they haven't paid it off.

    Oof.

Ugh, I was so against Facebook statuses in general.  BF and I dated for a full year without anything written for our status on Facebook.  I didn't put 'single', I just didn't put ANYTHING!

I've seen friends break up, and still leave the Facebook status as "in a relationship" for quite awhile because they didn't want the onslaught of pity from all their Facebook friends.

Have you heard people refer to it as "Facebook Official"?  That one just makes me giggle...

I really hate it when people spit.  It's disgusting!  You have phlegm?  Get a tissue.

It also really grinds my gears that BF can NEVER close a drawer or cabinet.  I've gotten so many bruises from the damn drawers being open.  I've learned to never go around corners slowly in my house.

One of my colleagues is married to a Brazilian, and so by Brazilian tradition only has a wedding ring (no engagement ring).

She went off on this whole schpeal about how anyone who wants an engagement ring just wants to be "pissed on" by their significant other, like she's being "marked like a dog marking its territory".  She went so far as to say that anyone who wants an engagement ring shouldn't be getting married.

Looking forward to seeing how that interaction goes when I show up in the office one day with a ring...

I've had birthday parties, with my friends in attendance, who then write birthday wishes on my wall because "if it ain't on Facebook, it ain't official!" It makes me LOL.

ETA: Consider me wanting to be "pissed on," then.

Paige, there's no way in hell I would be parking down the street if that's your spot, in your driveway, for your apartment, that YOU pay rent for.  I'd be marching upstairs, knocking on the door, and politely telling the neighbors that their friends need to move their car to the street. In fact, I HAVE done that.  On multiple occasions.  Because living below college sophmore boys sucks @ss

Oh man, the fb relationship statuses that are not true make me laugh.

People who aren't engaged saying they are... or two girlfriends list themselves as being married to each other.

Ring or no ring... it made no difference to me.  I told FI (then BF) I didn't need a ring but he insisted.  I do absolutely love my ring though and the best part is it doesn't evne smell like pee!  :)

Ugh pet peeve! I remember when FB first came out and it was the huge deal to put you were engaged to your friend. I found that annoying but engaged when you aren't reaches levels of stupidity that my mind is too tired to process.

I hate finding out about people's important news via FB - ie. engagements, pregnancies, etc.

We spent a good 3 hours making phones calls. You can too.

THIS! I absolutely hate it when people do that. I've told BF (and he agrees) that when we get engaged we will make phone calls...i don't care how long it takes. we r not touching our facebook status until all friends and family know.

Amen to this Kat! And if someone doesn't have time to make a phone call, I'm okay with a mass email (I know some people aren't, but I still think that's more personal than an FB status update!).

I found out about one friend's engagement via MySpace (this was a few years ago). Another I found out about through a friend. I ended up being a bridesmaid, but I didn't hear about her engagement from her.

Whenever I happen to get engaged, I plan to call close friends and family and email any I can't easily reach. After they're notified, then maybe I'll do the FB status.

I totally appreciate hearing things by phone rather than Facebook... but I would limit that at extended family and dear friends.  If this person's phone number isn't already in your phone, you shouldn't have to go hunt it down.  Any friend that I would normally talk to on the phone deserves a phone call.

I think a mass email is definitely more personal than just changing a Facebook status - at least then you're taking the time to let them know directly rather than just assume their News Feed will tell them.

Totally agree, Cate. You know what's the worst? BF's great-uncle passed away a couple weeks ago. His mom had emailed to say the uncle had a heart attack, then days later, BF got some FB-generated email about a "celebration of life." He called his mom to clarify, and her response was, "It was on Facebook, didn't you see it?"

i hate when people take self portraits through the mirror and use that as their FB pic...or even post them in general.  if the only profile worthiy picture of you is by you, in a mirror...maybe you should get the hell off of FB and get a life!

i HATE when people drive slower than the speed limit!!!  that has to be my biggest pet peeve ever!  i'm not necessarily a speeder, but come on...there is no reason to go 35 MPH in a 45 MPH zone.

on another note, i also had a friend who was dating this girl for a few weeks and when i asked if she was his girlfriend, he responded by saying "well, she hasn't changed her fb status to say 'in a relationship' yet, so i don't think so"  like wtf really?  YOU don't even know if you are in a relationship because it's not on FB??  wow...lol
