Irish....

I'm thinking of doing an Irish handfasting instead of the unity sand. Good idea?

I think so, I always liked them better than sand or candle unities.

I personally don't see a NEED for any unity part of the ceremony as I think the whole wedding is about unity, BUT we are doing the candle thing b/c both our mom's really want it and it doesn't matter either way to my FI and me.

  • Sure, if it's meaningful to you and your groom. As PP said, a unity ceremony isn't really necessary.

But, if you're getting married in a church, make sure you ask your pastor/priest first. Some churches don't allow handfasting because they see it as being of pagan origin.

  • we are doing the whole Irish thing, my FH's family is coming from Irland so we have to do it all. They do have some great tradations. We made our binding sash the colors have some great meanings to them
  • I've looked up color meanings and everything. I don't see the point in unity anything either but my love wants some Irish traditions since he's about 80% Irish. Me, I want the ceremony over asap cause I get so nervous in front of crowds. Lol
