Chair Covers?

So we picked our venue and it's super nicely done up already. It's the banquet room of a nice hotel, gorgeous chandeliers and everything. We won't require many decorations aside from centrepieces and table linens (which come with the package).  Our colours are apple green and navy blue and the table cloths will be white.  I'm torn about whether or not we should go ahead and rent chair covers.  I didn't really want the added expense but the chairs in the venue are black banquet chairs, certainly nothing fancy. They're not in terrible shape or anything but since we have no other black in our decor, they sort of stick out.

I went to a wedding reception in this venue last summer and I totally noticed how nice it looked with the chairs covered (though I think that bride and groom had quite a high budget and were able to do lots of things we can't, including using the nice satin chair covers).  I have some people telling me I'll regret it if I don't cover them and others saying that no one will notice what the chairs look like...

Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Chair Covers?

  • The last wedding I went to, I remember the food, the fact that the DJ sucked.. and yeah.. that's about it. Didn't really care about or notice the chair covers, if there were any.
  • I'm a type of person that would notice the chairs, the chairs at my venue were a dark red and my colors were champagne and blue so they wouldn't go at all. I got chair covers. I ended up signing a rental contract but knowing what I know now I would probably have purchased them online. Thats what I'm doing with my table linens, I bought them all, mentioned on my local board that I would have them for sale after my wedding and I already have a buyer! And my wedding hasn't even happened yet. I think I'll end up paying about $2 per table cloths after reselling them. I know a lot of girls have done this with chair covers too.
  • If you're near your venue, go visit and set up a sample table, then take a photo and see if you like it.  This one below looks nice, but the black def. stands out in contrast to the bright green and is part of the color scheme.  If you don't like the look, then go for the chair covers!

  • I'm a total chair snob, and I always notice chairs at weddings.  Most banquet chairs are an eye sore.

If you really want the chair covers that get them.  If you would rather save the money and don't care what the chairs look like then don't get them.

If you aren't in a contract to get the linens/chair covers from the venue I would definately check out www.linentablecloth.com. It's cheaper buying them.

  • I just want a chair.  As long as it's clean, sturdy, and mine, I don't care if it's covered or not.  For real.

  • I say yes to chair covers! I think they just really bring a venue together.
  • I am not a fan of chair covers.  They always look too grandma-ish and fussy to me and my purse and dress inevitably get tangled somewhere.

The chairs at our venue suck aesthetically so we priced covers and chair rentals (which is what we would do if we could afford it), but we decided we would rather put any money we can scrimp together toward having more of the people we love there.

If you will spend all night obsessing over it or you know your entire family will criticize you because they are all event coordinators or something, rent or buy some; you can always resell them later.  This is about you marrying the person you love and celebrating that with the people closest to you, not about trying to top what David Tutera or Martha Stewart can do.

The majority of the people there will never even notice the chairs, and don't stress about the few who might.  To quote Rick Nelson- "You can't please everyone so you got to please yourself."

  • are you allowed to buy your own? I got mine used on craigslist - they were used once and are in brand new condition for 1/3 of the cost of buying brand new or renting. and if you did buy brand new you could at least sell them when you're done
  • I think chair covers really make a huge difference. I love how they tie the room together. I have a tight budget for my wedding but found dicountchaircovers.com to be super reasonably priced, they even pay for shipping costs and you get the covers from Fri-Mon.  Significantly cheaper than renting them from any of the rental places I have found in town and cheaper than buying them also.
