Horrific Experience at Smith Brothers

I had my first venue visit on Saturday to Dock 580/Smith Brothers and it was a nightmare. It completely changed my mind on going to venue visits. I am absolutely mortified.  I walked into the venue and and a man came out and said he was Steve, which was the person I booked the visit with on the phone. Once I explained who I was and why I was there, he just stood there.  I was expecting to have him explain anything and everything that may be important when deciding if I was going to spend almost $10,000+ at their venue. It was almost like pulling teeth to get any information out of him. Once we told him how many people we thought we were going to have, he told me there was only one way of doing it, and that's that basically. After prying more information out of him he walked over to his table and proceeded to tell me I should go look at other venues and he started naming them off! He couldn't have been anymore rude in this situation. I understand if he believes he can't accomodate me, but there is defintely a better way to approach someone who could possibly be spending a large amount of money! I blantantly asked him if this was not the place for us and he said if we wanted a buffet then no it's not your place. Needless to say I walked out because he clearly did not want to spend his time on us, which made me not want to spend my time there.
I hope everyone had better visits at this venue than myself!

Sorry that happened to you Frown.  We didn't have a very good experience touring there either.  We called and emailed several times to set up an appointment, and it took quite a bit of time to finally get ahold of anyone.  Once we got there, they told us our date had booked the day before so we were pretty frustrated because we had been trying to get in and book for at least a couple of weeks!

That was the exact same experience we had and we loved the place to beginnning with, all the pictures we saw, we thought we would book, oh were we wrong. I feel like he was very cocky and knew that no matter what it would have booked, if it was us or not!

But every where else we went we had a great experience!

Yeah. We had awful phone experiences with this venue. I gave up. I hope you find better options!

Yeah, it was beyond a huge disapointment because it was further to the top of my list. He did definitely seem cocky and was not interested in providing me ANY information on the place. I'm glad he automatically showed his true colors then, because I can't imagine if he acted like that AFTER I booked.

I am now back on the hunt for a venue! I hope I find what fits us best! :)

Man, this is horrible... I'm sorry to hear that everyone's having experiences like this with this vendor.  Sure the space is neat but there's about a million other options in the city.  They should be a little more interested in customer service or they'll tank.... all they do is private events so what's left if they scare everyone away?  Yuck.

Contact the OSU Faculty Club. I just had my wedding there a few weeks ago and they were a DREAM to work with. After checking out 10+ places this was an easy decision. And, we couldn't have been happier with the outcome. Laynie the coordinator you get is fantastic. :)
