For what it's worth, I also have broad shoulders and thought halters looked the worst.

Strapless and capped sleeves made me feel much more comfortable.

Strapless was only good when it had a sweetheart neckline though - when it was straight across, it was like a bit underline to my shoulders and looked terrible LoL

  • I agree w/ PP, I think halters are NOT good for broad shoulders.   They tend to emphasize them even more!
  • Every "bridal guide" I've ever read that has a section about broad shouldered bride says to stay FAR FAR AWAY from straps of any kind. I think your best bet would be a sweetheart shaped strapless. Try to find one with a corset back (if you like those) and it will emphasize the smallest part of you and help to make your shoulders and hips seem symmetrical.

    You will look beautiful!

Honestly, I think your best bet is to go to a bridal salon and try on lots of different styles to see what you think looks best on you.  My sister has broad shoulders, and she ended up looking best in a dress with wide-set straps and a deep V-neck with crossover under the bust line.   But if she'd followed standard advice (stay away from straps), she would have ended up in a strapless dress, and those made her look like a linebacker (not that I told her this...but they did). The straps and V minimizer her shoulders and really looked very feminine.

  • I agree with Avion22, at a salon usually the consaltant knows how to help you find what will look best. All though once in a while you get the not so helpful person. But go in and tell them you need help and they will pull stuff for you. Also, try it on even if you don't like it on the hanger!!!
