OMG

So the tailor shop messed up my dress. I am devestated. I took it to them because I figured with the bridal salon connected TO their shop they would have experience in working with higher end type things.
WELLLLLLLL
I go to pick up my dress and try it on before i leave. First i notice that they changed the zipper from an invisible zipper to a tag style (no good dude i didnt say you could do that)
then the back is no longer laying flat I literally look like i have a duck butt. then the woman starts yanking on my dress saying i had it on crooked when i asked her about the sudden "fullness" in the back of my dress.
At this point i am really upset and I still have to put on my going away dress and i hang up the wedding dress and there is a big pulled thread line down the side of the skirt. I have taken this dress out of the garment bag exactly TWICE so I know it wasnt there before; i bought it brand new and its been at my grandmothers house in her closet until i dropped it off at the tailor shop
I am so upset at this point that my mom is trying to get me into the other dress and im shaking and about to cry and i told her to just get me out of the dress and get me out of here cause i havent had a bridezilla moment and i certainly didnt want it to be in public.
I'm sure its not something anyone else will notice but it certainly ruins the dress for me: i know its there and i doubt it will be out of my mind ever. I'm so upset. I will still wear it bug gahhhh couldnt ANYTHING else have gone wrong?! whyyyyy did it have to be my dress :(

CN: tailor shop did some sketchy things with my dress and now im really upset

First off, I'm SO sorry to hear this. That would have freaked me out and I probably would have been less composed than it sounds like you were.

Could you go back to the bridal salon and talk with them about it? Did they recommend this tailor? Perhaps they could help you figure something out.

My friend took her wedding dress to be cleaned where the bridal salon told her to take it, and when she picked it up, there was an ink stain on it! She went back to the bridal salon and freaked out because her wedding was in 2 weeks... the salon actually ordered her and rushed a brand new dress to her.. and I don't think they charged anything. Bridal salons want to keep you happy so that you will recommend them....

By the way... what was the tailor shop's reaction to these issues?

  • I bought my dress from davids bridal so they only reccomend themselves.and the people were so so rude about it they kept saying :"no no no we took it in on the front" (where there are beads im not stupid I can SEE where you took it in on the zipper because i sew!!!)
and kept telling me to have it dry cleaned and that the back would lay down when i had it cleaned.
like i really want to let my dress out of my sight now!
They were so rude and the while she was yanking on my dress i really wanted to just slap her.

  • Omg I'm so sorry this happened! Someone has to be responsible for this; I would have cried! I'm sure this sounds dramatic, but I would walk into the bridal shop and/or the tailor and cause a big scene. They'll try to pacify you to keep their other customers, and might offer you something. My mom always seems to get her way when she does this. You paid for a product/service and deserve what you paid for. Is it something that will show up in pictures (if worse came to worst)?

  • You could also get a second opinion from another seamstress.  You might have to try to argue with David's Bridal if you want to try to get them to pay to have their alteration work fixed, but at least the independent seamstress might be able to get your dress looking better.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I'd go back tomorrow, once you've had some time to regroup, and demand that it be fixed or receive a full refund. If they will not comply, go to the Better Business Bureau. I've had to do that with companies and it always works. Go through with it, though. Really contact BBB. They will get the job done if you can't.

First off how awful!!! Honey im so sorry this happened but I agree with pp that I quoted I would go back and demand it be fixed or given a refund! And let me commend you on not going bridezilla on them I know for a fact I wouldnt have been able to compose myself and I would have freaked out on them in public and all. • I am so sorry you have to deal with this.  I have to give you props though, because if it was my dress, I probably would have lost my mind right then and there.  As it is, FI had to step in when we had a bad experience with a cake tasting a few weeks ago.
  • That's terrible!! I'm so afraid of having something happen to my dress when I take it to get alterations. I'm actually driving 100 miles away to the bridal store where I bought it to have them do the alts incase (God forbid) anything happens. I hope they take care of it for you!
