Afternoon wedding day timeline

Hi Ladies! My ceremony will be starting at 11:30 in the afternoon. What time do you think all of bridesmaids and I will have to start getting ready? We are hopefully going to have someone come to the hotel but if not there is a salon nearby. I will be having 7 bridesmaids. Any help is appreciated!

Re: Afternoon wedding day timeline

  • I am not sure about a morning wedding, but I know for my 2pm wedding ceremony, my stylist and make up artist arrived at my house at 8am.  We were all finished by 1230ish and just had enough time to get bridal party pictures done and hop on the limo and leave.  We didn't have much spare time at all.  I had 5 bridemaids, 1 Jr bridesmaid, 1 flower girl, my mom, my mother in law and myself at my house to get ready. So I suppose it took about a total of 4.5ish hours for 10 girls to be completely ready and dressed.  The flower girl and Jr bridesmaid only took a combined total of about 20 mins with my stylist, they were easy and have shorter hair.  Hope my timeline helps you out a little bit.  Good Luck.

  • Do you know if the salon is large? I have been in 4 weddings and 3 of them we almost ran out of time for hair with only 3 stylists working on us (allocating 2-3 hours at the salon for 4-7 people) - The last wedding I was in we had appointments at a large salon where they could accomadate all of us at the same time and that worked out so well!
    Hope that helps
  • You need to allow a minimum of 1.5 hours for yourself for hair and makeup and an hour for each BM (30 minutes hair/30 minutes makeup).  You will definitely need several stylists.  I also don't recommend a hotel room unless you have a larger room or suite.  You will also need to allow at least 20 minutes to dress and put on your jewelry and headpiece, plus any travel time.

So with all that said, take the time you have to be READY (not the ceremony time) and back up from there.

  • My ceremony starts at 11:30am as well.  I'm having the hairstylist come to the hotel and it will be me plus 2 maids and my mom.  The stylist is going to arrive at 7am and we need to leave at 0945 to get to the church for pictures.  You will need multiple stylists/make-up artists or go to a big salon (you'll want to have 3-4 people getting done at the same time) or you'll need to start at about 4am.  Stephie is right-figure out what time you need to be ready and back up from there.

Another option is to see which girls are okay to do their own hair/make-up-it will save time and money.
  • Thanks so much everyone, this is super helpful!

  • I personally think that you need to start at 6.. More people = more time... Not just b/c of the obvious taking a long time for hair / makeup, but because people get distracted easier with more people.. And your stylist isn't going to push you in the chair and force you to stay still.. People will come and talk to you and interrupt her work.. (((( btw, that fine.. you should be having fun.. but realistically it just takes longer then.)

My friends wedding was the same time.. and the church was really close to the salon and to the place where they got dressed, and they started at 6am.. I know it makes for a long day... but ya don't wannna run late.
