What IS it with these people? I don't want someone to fawn all over me, but you could at least act like you give a shirt whether or not I fork over 5 grand for my reception.
I wanna hear too! I was annoyed with a possible reception venue. They emailed me info when we were early in our engagement and said by having my wedding on a Saturday in their prime month period, I'd have to spend a minimum of $5,000 with them. I was like there is no fuuucking way

<div>Eh, that's pretty common from what I've found. Our ballroom had a $10k minimum, but it could include tax and gratuity. </div>

Ours had that as well. After it was all said and done with the booze and food we were beyond that number anyway.

I get that. Our wedding venue is kind of useless, but luckily I don't need them for much beyond unlocking the door and staying out of our way. Sadly, with the wedding industry, they don't need to treat you well to make sure they get their dates booked. And that's all they care about at the end of the day.
You always have the option to go somewhere else though, yes?
Ehhh, my venue cost was $7500, and my budget was $9000. I did it... But then again, I had a lot of items made for me, so theres that. We really tried to find something in the $5000 mark, but just couldn't.
Thanks again, CALIFORNIA. Man, I am a Cali hater (not Calindi, California.)
Yeah, when we got everything priced out by a couple of all inclusive venues and were looking at well over $8000. Which isn't a terrible price considering, it just really wasn't in our budget. At the same time, they were much less willing to work with us on discounts and creating our own thing, because even if they haven't booked yet, there's going to be a bride that can pay it. So we've decided to go the "give us the key, we'll have it back Monday" route. I think it's going to work well for us since we're having a lot of stuff made for us either as gifts or at cost. The church is $1000, our reception venue is working out to be $1550, but that's just the building and the parking. Everything else, we have to do. It may end up costing us around as much as other places said, but I think we'll get more for the money when we don't have to only use their stuff.
Well, I had talked with a couple of cake people, and one of them was like "oh I won't give you a quote until 6 months before your day, feel free to check back with me, have a nice day." So I emailed her back and said (politely, I thought) "that's fine, your competitors are happy to provide quotes and work with me."
Today I'm trying to work with a reception site - and in all likelihoold we'll probably end up booking with them because after more reflection it's an AHHHHH-MAZING venue for way cheaper than most places in the area and it's totally us, just more than what I had hoped to pay - and we're going back and forth about proposals and what's included and words words words. I ask her if she offers veterans discounts. She totally shuts down and goes "No we don't, if you have any questions feel free to call or email." Like basically signing off.
I might be taking this too personally but seriously, do you need to be such a doosh canoo about the whole thing? I know that $5k isn't a massive amount for a reception but it's a pretty big amount to us, and just acting like you even remotely cared whether or not I dropped it at your establishment would be so great, thank you please drive through.
