tanning lotions?

has anyone tried any tanning lotions...not like actual self tanner, but the lotion stuff where it gives you a tan over time. Has it worked? does it make you orange or weird looking? How do you reach the middle of your back and stuff? any product recommendations?

thanks

Re: tanning lotions?

  • Yeah girl, I've used both Jergens and Vaseline. Also I go tanning (sue me, my vanity is trumping my common sense at the moment) and my lotion has a bronzer in it.

I like them for the most part but I usually only use them a few times a week for awhile because I always eventually start to notice blotchy spots so I have to stop. They're cool to use sporadically but I honestly think it's just easier to bite the bullet and get a spray tan to make sure you have even coverage.
  • I have tried Jergens and the Loreal Sublime. I liked them both but they each have their own distinctive smell so it depends on which you prefer.
  • I've used Coppertone Gradual Tan, and it worked well.  It's pretty light, so you can't mess up very easily.  It does have a weird smell and can rub off on light clothes, and you have to use it multiple days in a row to build up a bit of color..  I only use it for my legs, so you may need someone to help you if you want to use it on your back.

I agree with Jenna about the spray tan though, so you don't have to mess with the lotion everyday for a few weeks.
  • thanks girls. Ive thought about spray tans before...but I had a friend try it once and that color was a little off and her hands were waaay to tan! any recommendations on how not to have that result?

  • When I spray tan, I use a tan accelerator beforehand.  Also, I apply "barrier cream" (the salon provides it for you) to my palms and nails.  I also put just a little on my hands, knees, elbows, heels, nose, etc.--places where I don't want to be too tan.  Rough patchy areas will be darker so I apply the cream on those areas.  I never have a problem now, but it took a little practice.
  • I get spray tans (Mystic Tan) and like Stephie said it takes a little practice. Once you learn how to apply to barrier cream correctly it looks great!
  • I use Hawaiian Tropic gradual tanner. It won't really make you any darker, it just kind of gives a glow and keeps me from looking pasty white.

  • You can have those same problems with even the gradual tan lotions if you put too much on your knees each time or don't wash your hands well afterwards.
How long til your wedding?  You should probably do a trial spray tan to make sure you get the right color and know what areas need the barrier cream.
IIf any place comes out too dark, try exfoliating to fade it faster.
