why did i think our guests would be any smarter than anyone elses?

how is this so difficult?

i really thought that we wouldn't have any issues with the RSVPs because how difficult can it be, really?

our reply card looks like this:

i assumed that "number of guests" was obviously how many guests were coming.  like, if you and your wife were invited and you both were coming the number of guests would be 2.

so, my very first reply back the guy put his name and then 1 for number of guests.  i asked if his wife couldn't make it and he said he thought that line was for guests in addition to him (he put his name on the name line).

then our first batch of replies we received in the mail someone decided they were going to bring a date even though his name was the only name on the envelope.  no "& guest"

*le sigh*  luckily i know we'll have room for this guy's guest, but come on!  now because of all the confusion about the reply cards i'm afraid we'll have to call everyone to confirm exactly how many people are coming.  i really didn't need this.

Re: why did i think our guests would be any smarter than anyone elses?

  • Weird.  I purposely put a line that said "We have reserved __ seats in your honor" so I could put the exact number of guests they were allowed to bring.  If someone got an invite with no guest, they got a big old number 1 in that spot.  Hopefully those two cases will be rarities for you.
  • I did the same thing Gabby! We didn't invite children under the age of 10 to our wedding so we put 'We have reserved ____ seats for Mr. & Mrs. Blah Blah' Or '...for Blah Blah & Guest' Hopefully this will cut down on extra guests being brought to our wedding.

Hopefully, other people understand your reply cards better than those two people. I mean, it's not that hard to figure out!

    We did this too!

  • I'm finally realizing ppl will screw it up no matter what you do. Our RSVP cards had each guest's name written in already by me, with Accepts or Declines under each name. No room or extra lines to write anyone else, no room to write # of guests, nothing. Still, somebody decided to write "with 9yr old son Junior" on the bottom of the RSVP card! Here I was thinking my plan was foolproof: his name is not on the invitation, his name is not on the RSVP card, he is obviously not invited, right? And then she wanted to get an attitude when my mom explained to her that her son is not invited...  Hopefully the rest of your guests, and mine, will get the point.

Yeah you would think an RSVP card is pretty easy to fill out. Nope! It's crazy!!
  • I've decided I'm going to teach an online class in how to RSVP to a wedding and make MILLIONS!!... okay, probably not because the people who don't know how to RSVP to a wedding probably won't even know how to sign up for the class. Oh well, their loss!

Our RSVP is rather complicated as we needed people to reply to three events and select an entree. The responses have been laughable. No names, no entree choices, only RSVPing to 2/3 events. COME ON PEOPLE! My 87 year old grandpa did it YOU CAN TOO!!

  • I'm at the point where I think guests don't acutally bother to look at or over anything and just make HUGE assumptions. lol. - I hope I'm not like this when attending a wedding...

I think I have had 2 RSVPs come back correctly.  You are not supposed to put check marks beside "accepts with pleasure" you are supposed to put a number (at least that is what I have always thought)  For example, if I send the invite to a family of 4, if 3 can make it and 1 cant, the card should look like this:

    3 accepts with pleasure
    1 declines with regret

Isnt that much easier than writing all the names along with explaining that so and so cannot come?  ugh.

  • I made the mistake of not adding a line for people's names. I had to number each one on the back of the RSVP card so I would know who it came from if they didn't bother to put a return address. Sure enough, we got one in the mail yesterday with no return address, so I had to check my sheet to mark them off.

Oh well. Such is life. There are bigger things to stress over....
  • *Knock on wood* Our guests have been good so far : ) We have gotten 14 RSVP cards in the past 2 days, & we haven't had any surprises so far. I probably just jinxed myself, but oh well, I'm kind of expecting it to happen sooner or later!

  • We just put a line for people to put their names and then "accepts with pleasure" or "declines with regret".

Everyone has put their name(s) and then either a check or a number 2.

  • Ah I wish I did the we have seats for....so nervous!

  • Ours states 'please initial the entree choice of each guest.' I would say less than half have understood this.

Ha!  We did the same thing and I've been having the same results---people put an x in front of two different dinner options and apparently I'm supposed to guess who would like what. :)

<div>Ours says this exact same thing and we have the same problem....I guess people don't read..ugh!</div><div>
</div><div>Other issues I've had with my RSVPs so far are added guests and a decline with no name on it. Thank goodness I numbered all my RSVPs so I was able to figure it out but really??? No name and no return address on the envelope. People can be crazy.</div><div>
</div><div>From this experience I have learned to always send the RSVP right away when I know for sure that I am going to a wedding. I am guilty of being one of those people that waits a little while before sending it back but I won't do it anymore! I will do my part to spare future brides the stress of wondering who is coming and who isn't LOL</div>

  • So annoying!  I have a similar issue - we are having a plated dinner, so I need to know who wants what choice.  My RSVPs say "Please INITIAL your entree selection".  How the hell else am I suppose to know who wants steak and who wants chicken?

It's ridiculous, I'd say about 75% of people just put checkmarks.  Well, too bad so sad, if they get the wrong meal they'll have to switch with their family member!
