Groom attire - best place to buy a vest separate

Hey everyone!  I'm having a garden wedding this August and we're planning on having my fiance wear suit pants and a vest (not a tux and we're nixing the suit jacket).  Where is a good place to find a decent variety of suit separates?  Any experiences with that?

Thanks!!
Kate

  • What is "best" for you depends on a number of things: aesthetic, budget, location, time, etc.

I'd say, if you're looking in the decent quality/moderate price range, check out any of the major department stores: Macy's, Nordstrom, and Belk have great men's sections. You can also check out a Brooks Brothers or Ralph Lauren retail store. Banana Republic has also had some very nice waistcoats in the past.

Failing that, and I mean this completely seriously, check Ebay, thrift, and vintage stores! You'd may be surprised what high-quality items you can find for vastly less than retail prices. I acquired two of my favorite waistcoats from a thrift shop.

Of course, the more time before your wedding, the more you can search for something appropriate.

  • My fiance is wearing a vest only as well.

It depends on what color you are looking for and what style. We looked all over the mall. Macy's and other department stores only had two colors . . . black and grey. We wanted brown. We searched everywhere. Finally we found one at Forever 21. It's one of the last places I thought we'd find one lol. It will need to be tailored a little bit to fit him better, but it's perfect for the look we're going for.

    Good luck!!

  • I'd try K&G Stores.  I checked and there are three in Colorado.  My groom is a BIG guy (he is 6'3") and that's where we are getting his suit (complete with a vest) they usually do all their alterations, if needed, in stores as well.  They sell the whole she-bang as well as separates and their prices are reasonable.

    Their website is www.kgstores.com

    Happy hunting!

  • We found the guys' suits at Men's Warehouse. FI wants a vest - just for him, so he stands out - and they had one to match the suit he picked out. He's going with suit separates, too. Not sure what color you're looking for, but he chose dark grey. Hope this helps... BTW, MW also has the colored satin style vests in a box with a matching bow tie & long tie. These are "tuxedo vests" because of the satin buttons, but it might be an option if you can't find a regular vest. A suit is a suit to me - FI told me about the tuxedo vest. You might want to check out Joseph A Bank. They had a few when we went in there too.
