horah first

Did anyone do the horah as the first dance when they entered the reception? Did you just coming and start?

Right now, we're set to do first dance and then hora and do father/ daughter dance towards the end of the meal.

Many, although not all of our guests were Jewish, and were expecting us to enter and go straight into the horah - so although the band leader did introduce us, there was no need to say "and now we're going to do the horah" (about 75% of our music was actually of the horah pursuasion). Anyone who wasn't sure what was going on was grabbed into the circle (you can do this yourself or ask one of your family members/wp to be dance captain, to lead the charge to the dance floor). The beauty of the horah is that it's essentially running around in a circle - so just about everyone can do it and it actually really helped our non-Jewish guests feel like they were a part of what was going on. Also we had a lot of single guests, so we didn't have people on the sidelines for lack of a dancing partner.

We are doing our first dance, then father/daughter, then mother/son and then the horah.  I think it gives the guests a chance to relax a little before getting up and going.  Then we'll go into dinner.

For those of you using a DJ, do you have a version that you recommend?  I am having a hard time finding a good version. Thanks!

We're doing the horah (well, jewish music that may or may not actually be the horah) first, then dinner, then our first dance and continuing with secular music.  For the first dance set there will be a mechitza set up, which we'll take down during dinner. That way there's some dancing for everyone, including our religious friends/family!

has anyone done the hora, first dance, father/daughter/mother/son dances after eating. I am wondering if it will break up the momentum that is built by getting everyone on the dance floor, to then stop the dancing, eat, and then expect everyone to get back up.
