Confused about registering for gifts.

My fiance and I live together and its the second marriage for both of us. We are well established and we decided not to register for gifts. Now people are asking where we are registered. We are confused if we should go register somewhere or if it would seem tacky. Any suggestions? Thanks

Re: Confused about registering for gifts.

  • If you don't need anything you don't have to register. You could tell people that you're all set and just want the present of their presence (har har) or you could tell people you're saving up for XYZ. If people really want to get something for you they will, but most people will take the hint and give cash or gift cards.

  • If people are asking about a registry, I would make a small one.  Consider upgrades, new linens, or some of the out of the box ideas in Brie's sticky.
  • You're not required to register anywhere.   Just tell them you decided not to register because you have everything you need at the moment.  They will decide whether or not they want to give you a gift, and pick something on their own if they want.

But there is also nothing wrong with registering for upgrade items!
  • If people are asking and you would like to, I think registering is fine.  You're not forcing anyone to buy you gifts, and they might just want an idea of what you need/want so you don't get something that you don't like.

  • I really appreciate all the advice ladies. I knew this would be the place to go for answers!
  • Just be careful, not registering doesnt mean you'll get cash; they may just get you random knick-knack stuff that you won't be able to return anywhere.

I'd do a small upgrade registry since even if youre an older couple- you can always use some nice new kitchen gadgets or towels.

  • I would plan a honeymoon and register for that...they have sites all over that your guests can go right online and help w the costs
