Stony Hill Inn vs. Macalusos

Hi ladies!  Thank you so much for all the warm welcomes in response to my previous post.  This is all very overwhelming and the advice is very much appreciated!  I'm going to check out Apple Ridge CC in Mahwah and Ramsey Country Club, but if those aren't what I'm looking for...it's down to two.  Stony Hill Inn in Hackensack or Macaluso's in Hawthorne.I'm having about 185 people on a Saturday night (don't know which one though!) in July 2010.  I'll be having the ceremony at the reception venue.  Any reviews and opinions on these places would be so greatly appreciated!  (Even if they're brutal! lol I want to know before I go!)Thank you all for reading this and for any advice!

I haven't been there but I would assume an outside ceremony at Stony Hill would be loud since it backs on to 80.  Not sure though...

I went to a wedding at the Stony Hill Inn awhile back and it was just ok...nothing spectacular, the food was just ok.   When I was shopping around for venues I went there just to check it out and see what we could get, and they were not really interested in negotiating much and/or throwing in any extras.  Where else have you looked??  I wouldn't limit yourself to the 4 listed....we looked at about 10-15 places before choosing our venue, and I am so glad I kept looking.

I just had my reception at Macaluso's on June 27th.  It was spectacular!  Everyone has raved about the food.  The staff is incredible.  I can't say enough good things about it!  They made the day even more perfect for us!

Hi! Thank you all for the responses!  We looked at many places...and thought we found our perfect place until the owner demanded all cash...so the search is back on.  I've narrowed the long list to the four listed above.  :)  I think I'm further narrowing it to Stony Hill and Macalusos, but I am stuck between the two.  The links to reviews were very helpful, and about the 80 traffic...yes, it is quite loud!  We'd be getting married inside at either place.  Thank you again for the reviews!  I'm looking forward to reading more! :)

I know it doesn't help as a review, but we're having our reception at the Stony Hill Inn next spring! I absolutely love the decor and the food there. They were also pretty accomodating with us when we booked. We were able to negotiate additional items, upgrades, etc. We aren't having our ceremony there, but if you are getting married inside, I don't think you'll have a problem with the noise.Btw, someone at work just had her wedding there as well and had loved it.

I looked at the Stony Hill Inn, and afterwards Joan called several times to invite me for a free tasting.  I would call them and see if you could do that, it may help you make up your mind.

Good idea!  I've never been to an event at either place, so a food testing is a great start!

I liked the ambiance at Macaluso's (haven't been inside Stony Hill) & would have probably booked there...but they wanted more than the 75 people we would guarantee.

We just booked our August 7, 2010 wedding at Macaluso's. We first visited the venue about a month ago and loved it! We felt very comfortable with the staff and everyone was more than accomodating. I called several times after with questions and our sales guy, Nat, was great. We went back yesterday, after requesting a tasting, and booked immediately. Although I have had few interactions with the staff so far, those that I've had were very pleasant. Good Luck!!

we went to a wedding at the Stony Hill Inn in November, and we were really excited bc my cousin got married there in Sept 1999 and it was fantastic. unfortunately this time it wasn't as great. the cocktail hour was very good and the place is beautiful, but my dinner was horrible. I had steak (dont remember what cut it was) and i asked for it medium well. it came out completely burned on the outside and bloody on the inside. it was horrible. DH had chicken, and it was ok...not great, not terrible. my boss' retirement party was at macaluso's and it was awesome. i dont think the atmosphere is *as* nice there, but the food is great

i went to a tasting at the stony hill. they have you order off their restaurant menu as if you were out to dinner. we tried to order stuff that was similar to their wedding menu so we would have a good idea of what it would be like. we loved the food! however the room just wasnt right for our # of guests.i highly suggest a tasting and sit down with joan. she's super nice and was willing to give us more than what was listed/ negotiate.
