Wear veil during reception?

Hi all, I'm thinking of wearing my veil during the wedding (it will be shoulder length with full coverage). A friend of mine suggested that I may not want to wear the veil during the reception, because people may tug on the veil when giving hugs, or because the veil will pretty much hide my hair (going to wear it pulled back) and I may want to show off the 'do. I was just curious what other people are doing/have done, or for those of you who are already married and wore your veil all night, if you had problems like this. TIA!

Re: Wear veil during reception?

  • i had a short elbow length veil.  i wore it all day.  it didnt get pulled at, and i hugged several people before i even walked down the aisle.  in fact, the pic in my siggy is taken at the very end of the day, wehn we got home - you'll see the veil is still intact. i had my hair girl put like a million pins in the do and the veil.
  • I will be leaving my veil on for the ceremony and reception...its actually cathedral length but to avoid tugs & trips my seamstress is going to sew a tiny bustle on the back of my wedding dress & make it match so you won't even know its there..then I can have it bustled up and it looks like its shorter than it really is...could that be an option for you even though yours may not be as long??Good luck with whatever you decide!!!
  • I wore my elbow length veil throughout the reception, and it didn't really cause a problem. There was one point where it got in my face while Chad and I were dancing, and another point where one person did hug me too high, but overall, it was just fine - and lookes great in pictures! I mean, when else are you going to get to rock a veil?
~ bonnykate "I can totally see you one day, giving birth, and you're screaming, 'This is the pain my body was meant to feel!'" Yep, that's totally going to be me.
  • I am going to wear a longer veil during my ceremony and then I'm going to wear a birdcage veil for the reception.
  • i'll be purchasing an elbow length veil and i will be wearing it all night... i've always wanted to wear a veil and i only get to wear it once ...
  • I wore my veil all night (elbow length) but was forewarned about the tugging.  I took a proactive approach and whenever anyone went to give me a hug I made sure to grab their hands and give them a kiss on the cheek instead or made sure my arms were above theirs so they had to hug around my waist.
  • I'm going to be taking mine off for the reception. After trying it on during the dress fittings and during my hair trials..I realized how hot it was and it was itchy too. I didn't want to be messing with it all night, so I am just going to take it out.
