Berkeley City Club

Has anyone had a ceremony and/or reception at the Berkeley City Club?  If so...thoughts?  What would I be looking at in terms of cost? I don't see anything on their website, and I tried emailing but haven't received a response and I am out of the country for the next few weeks so I can't phone them.  I'd like to make an appointment to view the space and talk to a coordinator, but am wary of doing so without having an idea of whether a wedding there is at least potentially within my budget. Thanks!!

I had looked into the Berkeley City Club a bit, and received a bunch of information via email from their events manager.  If you give me your email address I can forward the info they sent to me. From what I recall, they seemed to be reasonably priced and the place looked pretty in the pictures (although in general it definitely had an older feel to it).  Our biggest concern and the main reason we decided against it was parking - either you have to reserve spaces in nearby garages in advance (for a fee of course, which would have cut into our budget), or you have to make your guests try to find street parking, which was not an appealing option to us.

That would be very helpful.  Thank you!  c_martina@yahoo.com.I was wondering the same thing about the parking.  I appreciate the help.

We went to a wedding there.  It was really pretty at night.  It is older looking but at night it looked romantic.  When we got there and it was still light outside, it wasn't quite as grand looking.  It definitely needed the sun to set and candles to be lit to give it that wedding feel.  If you are having an evening wedding, I think it would be the best.  The food was good and I know that the bride said it was a reasonable price overall.  For parking our friends had everyone park at a lot she rented about 10 miles away and shuttled everyone in and out and I think that cost her about $1000 total and there were a little over 100 people.  For the bay area I think it is probably more reasonable than most of the other places.

We looked at having our wedding here but decided against it because of the parking, the cost of alcohol, and we didn't like the food that much. The space is pretty reasonable, but they really get you on the food and alcohol. We also didn't have a great experience with the coordinator. We went in to taste the food with my maid of honor and her husband. It wasn't a free tasting, we just went in for dinner to check out the food before we signed the contract. There was another couple in the dining room doing their official tasting. We were the only two parties in the dining room. The coordinator came in to talk to the other couple and instead of stopping by our table to say hi or see how we are doing she just waved at us from a distance and left. It was so weird and pretty rude. I also found her to be fairly unresponsive to my emails and calls and worried that would stress me out. We decided to go with a place that let us bring in our own food and alcohol and where we clicked with the caterer.
