Photography

Hi Ladies -I finally decided the kind of photography I am looking for. I stumbled across a photographer I LOVE, but of course they are located in AL.  Do any of you have any idea of any vintage inspired wedding photography in NJ?Thank You!

I think Erica Lyn's stuff looks sort of vintage-y at times.Kella MacPhee describes herself as modern, but I think she uses a lot of sephia and muted colors, which comes across as more vintage-inspired, as you said.

Call and ask what their rates are for a destination wedding.  Most photographers travel.  :)

I agree with calling and finding out their rates.  I used Erica Lyn and was so happy. Lisa Beth

Thanks for all the feedback . . . with all the choices out there, people always tell me when you know you know and I must say, I fell in love.  Their website does say their packages start at 2000 and they travel nation/ worldwide . . . I'd just wonder how you'd actually meet with them.  I'm going to check out the websites for all your recs.Thank You!

if you love their pictures, see what they travel for.  however, if you love their post-edit job, perhaps see if you can find someone local just as talented.  lots of these pictures on this site just have photoshop overlays on them, tweaking with color and light to adjust what was "really" there.  anyone can learn this, many choose not to to focus on the work vs. the album.  i fell in love with a photog. who yes you could fly him down for $10k which i wasn't willing to do.  i realized i loved that edit work, and the photojournalistic bordering cinematic in my opinion style, not just the overlays.  so thats when i found chris jorda who had that same style, and i can always take my photos to be tweaked and edited as i like for hanging and albums by anyone.

We flew in our photographers (from Vancouver).  We had admired their work for a long time, so it seemed like a natural fit.  We met them once prior to the wedding, but after we booked.  Instead we went on reputation, recommendation and some phone calls....Photography is art - so it's not like just anybody can copy somebody else's style.I agree a lot of their work is post processing & adding texture, but it doesn't mean that somebody else could (or would) duplicate the process exactly the same way.  That said, you should make a few local appointments just to see what others offer - you might find a better fit.  Or you might realize that as much as you love these photographers, it's not the best option. No harm in asking...  No harm in looking around.

I'm def. interested to see how much they charge to travel but I don't like the idea of not really being able to meet with them . . . although I don't actually know how they work that.Correct me if I'm wrong, I can take any photograph that I like and have someone process and tweek it to give it that feel from the website I posted?  (that'd be amazing)I'm getting frustrated with the photography part . . . although I haven't really personally explored my options, I've just visited a lot of websites, non of which have really sparked my interest as much this one did.. . . I appreciate all the help though.

Theoretically, if you know what post processing effects, actions & textures that photographer is using - you can get a similar look on your own.  I'd also say that of course you have to start with good source material.
