DJ for $1000 or less

Hey Girls,I know there have been lots of recs for various DJ's, but I'm specifically looking for someone who will do a 4 hour reception for $1000 or less, I'm doing separate musicians (string quartet hopefully) for the ceremony. I already have Andy with A Music Wave on my list.  Any others in that price range?  Is Melodies & Memories more than that?

I got Melodie to go down to $500 for 3 hours. It took some work, but she did, so there is no reason why for 4 hours she will be very much more. Also, I got Andy to go down to $400 for 3 hours, so finding a DJ for 4 hours for less than $1000 is SOOOO doable!

My DJ was $575 for 5 hours. Christian with Complete Music.

Melodie is right around that!  You might want to check out wedding wire and see if they have posted any specials...

I can't help yet, but you ladies are reading my mind this week!   I was just looking for one yesterday.

I haven't booked a DJ yet but I did speak to Melody from Melody and Memories she quoted me $800 for 4 hours and $100 for an extra hour. She seems really great too.

Robert Williams - "Sounds Spectacular"  He is charging me $625 for 3 hours so I think 4 hours would probably be under 1K.  He is awesome.

I honestly don't know my DJ's prices, I think he works with each bride as he doesn't have prices or packages on his website. But he is giving us a great discount because my aunt is his wife's coworker so I feel like I should plug him anyways :pDJ's of Dallascontact info is in my bio

I met with Scott from Creatie Touch yesterday and really liked him. He quoted me $1000 over the phone but I asked him for a discount and he is doing it for $800 for a 5 hour reception. If you tell him it' sonly 3 he might come down even more. He was super professional and has been doing this forever. I would try him out and see. We haven't booked him yet but probably will this week. 972-742-3869

Am I seriously the only one that was totally beaten down during my meeting with Melody & Memories??? I knew immediately that I didn't want her.. oh well.
  • edited December 2011
I can't really talk about Melody as we booked Lori. How did she beat you down??
  • edited December 2011
I just didn't like any of her ideas and/or her personality. No big deal, though. So many people love her and that's great! We ended up with a DJ who we adored and did a superb job, so no worries. Music was really important to us, like top 3 important and we felt that she was too cheesy.

We're using The "J" Team DJ Service. $950 for 5 hours. I actually know nothing about him. He came highly recommended to my mom from a family friend.

emimayor- I read before that Melody is an in your face kinda DJ so I immediately took her off the list.  Some girls loved that she got people up on the dance floor and showed peopel how to dance but personally,I want my DJ to be in the background and not the center of attention. It's like you said, everyone is different. We all just have to find the people that connect with us so we have OUR day! :)

emimayor, who is this Lori that you mentioned? We are looking for the same type of DJ, not so in your face and music is very important to us. TIA!

Matt Poston was unlimited time for $800 and he was good.  I found him on TK.

We went with Melody as well. I agree, she has a lot of personality, but if keeps people dancing, I'll be happy. I will be upset if we have overly loud music, etc. though

Wowzer, just wanted to chime in my $0.02 for Melody from Melodies and Memories as we loved her, and more importantly, so did our guests!Melody's very 'in-tune' (pardon the pun) with the crowd and we had folks ranging from early 20's to late 70's and they all really enjoyed the dancing aspect of the night. She's funny, gregarious, professional and honestly, most of all, came through in a pinch when we had some other microphone and electricity issues involving our venue and other vendors. The best thing about a DJ is that they can keep the night moving, keep people on the dance floor and work closely with the bride or wedding coordinator to ensure the planned events go off without a hitch (cake cutting, garter toss, etc).Melody had unique ideas for us (we didn't want a bouquet toss for example) and really listened to us with respect to our likes and dislikes of music in general.99% of the reviews I've read about her company are overwhelmingly positive and I really encourage you to give her a shout if you're in the market for a DJ!  My guests are STILL raving about Melody, the music she selected and the non-stop fun they had at our reception! Thanks for reading and happy DJ selecting!lauren in FTW (5/31/09)

I didn't care for her (Melody) personality either. I didn't want someone who was cheesy and focused more attention on herself than on us. It is just how I wanted it... She may be good for some, but not all.  I also wanted someone who was more creative  and wont turn my wedding into the same type of weddings I have been to. I wanted something unique..... Unfortunately, I couldn't find unique for less than 1000. Just my opinion...

JenndoddWho did you end up with?

Interestingly enough, I didn't find Melody to be an attention-grabber at all - in fact she went out of her way to make sure she helped my hubby pick a PERFECT song for the garter toss!We were pretty apathetic about what song to use (neither of us were too 'into' the whole garter thing) but she searched and searched and on the day of the wedding, she had Ross listen to a song she thought might work. From those who saw him w/the headphones on, they say that he was laughing so hard and really was digging the song.  I knew NOTHING of this until after the fact, btw.Soooooooo the time comes for the song, they have me sitting on the chair, etc. and this song starts playing....no one's heard of it and then the guy blares 'It's the Attack of the COUGAR' (which is hysterical, because Ross is 26 and I"m 45) LOL  The whole crowd cracked up, and we both really appreciated the personal touch!Just another opinion!lauren5/31/09

We went with stephen and connie from stephenjamesweddings.com. Lots of different ideas that we have never seen at any weddings we have been to. We really wanted something special and different (and NOT cheesy).
