bridal shower - with no registry

I have a friend who's shower I'm helping to plan. EXcept she isn't registered, nor does she want to. Ideas/suggestions? Just host a luncheon?

Probably because she wants cash money!

She is going to get a ton of vases, picture frames and toasting flutes.

People will probably still end up giving her GC though... Sin, just curious what do you mean by luncheon? Like how would it be different from a regular shower?

Tell her that's a BAD idea since majority of people won't want to give cash for a shower and will take it upon themselves to select household items for her and without a registry returning is a major hassle.

Ok who doesn't want to register, such fun?!  Either way if she does not register she is going to get so much crap that will be such a pain to return.  Some might do cash but majority of people will just get her whatever they want/like.I guess you could do a ladies lunch and not call it a bridal shower :-/.

Or if assuming she just doesnt want to get presents because she doesnt need them maybe you could write "you company is the only gift we need". And just have a lunch to celebrate her.

well, she had registered at LNT when they bought their house, and they "have everything they need". Plus, her wedding is in 6 weeks and we are scrambling to put something together. She was in an accident which threw everything wedding onto the back burner.

If she doesn't want any gifts at all then I think calling it a luncheon or a cocktail party would deter some random gift givers but I think that most are going to assume its a shower and if she's not registered she'll end up with a bunch of useless stuff.

yes it is.I was thinking of doing a HM registry for them. I know its considered "tacky" by some. But at least it will be something they will enjoy, and definately deserve with all they have been through.

I say go for it! She might as well get "useful" gifts.

Just make sure she hasn't already booked things.  Or maybe make it a pamper yourself kind of party i.e. spa type of gifts, favorite recipes, etc.

I normally hate HM registries, but in this case it works. I say do it and set it up for them. People don't actually buy you anything all the money gets pooled together and the company cuts you a check for the total. It's a great way to get them money and they won't feel guilty splurging a little on their HM, they deserve it.

Shame she doesn't drink. I liked the wine idea. Could have done like a wine tasting and asked people to bring a bottle of wine.

How about a money tree theme?  We did this for my grandparents anniversary party.  In lieu of guests bringing gifts our immediate family put together a money tree to display.  Maybe the BP can do this?  If I were a guest going to a shower with no registry I'd just give cash.  I wouldn't take it upon myself to buy the person a gift I didn't know if they'd want, or a GC to a store I wasn't sure they shopped at.
