i hit a proverbial "bump" in my wedding planning road...

my old church has no record of me being baptized there.  none at all.  i was baptized there when i was around 7 years old, and they never gave a certificate to me or my parents.the church we are getting married at wants a certificate, so i went to ask the old church about it, and there is no record.  it doesn't help that it was almost 18 years ago, and then i moved out of state.what now? am i going to have to get baptized again?

Hmmm...baptism is a one time sacrament for churches (at least the Catholic Church), so I doubt they'd let you be baptized again just for the documentation. Why don't you talk to the church you're getting married at about it? They may just have you sign an affidavit certifying that you were baptized even though the records were lost.  I'm Catholic and DH's not, and my church only asked for documentation of my baptism, not his.

stephen and i are getting married at epiphany catholic church on britton rd.  he went there as a little kid, and his parents are still members.the church that lost my records is a baptist church, so i don't know how they are going to handle losing my stuff.  at least thy were honest when they said they keep better records now, but they never actually issued a baptismal certificate back then for anyone.  but they couldn't find any record at all, anywhere.

It varies a little based on how strict the priest is, but you should be fine. DH's Methodist and he only had to have his parents sign a form saying he wasn't currently married. My priest didn't require documentation of his baptism, saying that he knew a lot of other churches didn't keep as comprehensive records as the Catholic church does.

If you want it, post your email and I'll send you the copy of our program for the Catholic wedding ceremony outside of mass. You'll just have to switch names, songs, and readings.
