When to Book the Florist?

So I am about 10 months out from my wedding and have decided to start looking at and interviewing florists. I have picked the dresses and have a good idea of what flowers I like. The first florist I called and set up an appointment with indicated that she is booking up for 2010 already and already had a wedding booking the day before my wedding. So I felt like I was a little behind in booking a florist. The second appointment I made, the florist made me feel like I was a little early to be looking for a florist. I have researched it and all the wedding site recommendations are to start looking at florists 6-12 months out so I am sort of in the middle. So I figure I will start looking at and interviewing florists and book them and sign a contract when I find one I like but no later than 6-8 months out. Is that about right? When did you book your florist?

I booked my florist about 9 months out. I wouldn't let the florist pressure you, she may do that so you book her without checking out other florists. IMO 10 months is definitely far enough in advance!

We booked about 7 months out, and I know our florist had a few other weddings the same day as us.  I say it can't hurt to get things done and out of the way early!

I booked mine about 7 months out but I also consider September to be not as popular as May/June/July.  I met with two florists, I had heard the first was pushy but I didn't think she was but I liked #2 because he would listen to what I wanted but would tell me what would look good.  Personally, I have booked pretty much all vendors based on our "jive factor"--that is, if we get along and can sit there and joke around, we're cool.  Florist #2 had jive factor so I booked.  Figure out who you get along with and like and go with them!  I figured if we had to work together for the next 6 months we best get along!!!

My wedding is 3 and a half months away and I'm having my initial meeting with the florist tomorrow.  Don't let them stress you out!!  10 months is plenty of time and looking now gives you time and options.

haha I booked 15 months out (mostly because I am out of town and planning a wedding in Cleveland) so no worries! As long as you find a florist that you like and that is in your budget go for it! :)

we booked our florist 10 months out. It never hurts with any vendors to take your time and research and do it very early!

I booked my florist about 4 months out, but I had an April wedding and I didn't have a specific florist in mind when I started researching.
