? about floral contract

I met with Colleen of Divine Designs last week and I just got her quote over the weekend. It's a bit more than I want to spend, and during our meeting, I didn't bring up my budget, mostly because I felt awkward about it. I loved her ideas but I just don't want to spend that much. I have 2 weeks to let her know, and it says I can't deduct more than 10% of the total contract cost....Could I email or call her and explain that it was more than I wanted/expected and see if we could re-do a contract? I am meeting/have met with other florists so I could always just pick someone else, but I did really like her! Anyone have any advice? TIA!

Check to make sure that the contract doesn't say that you can't make changes of more than 10% after signing the contract.  MY contract with her stated that I could make changes up to 30 days before, but they could not be more than 10%.But feel free to email her with the budget concerns-she really will work with you!!Melissa

I think that the 10% reduction rule is only once you sign the contract.  Til it's signed, you can change your budget and proposal as many times as you want!  Trust me, I did :-)  (with another florist)  Give her a call and I'm sure she'll make any changes that you want.

I would definitely call her and discuss your concerns.  She's super easy to work with and is definitely willing to work with any budget.

ditto pp.  That is only if you sign it so she can be guaranteed to make a certain amount.  The first contract is a proposal until you sign it.  So let her know of the changes you want and she will write a new one up I'm sure.

Thanks girls! I will definitely get in touch with her. I was so overwhelmed during the meeting because flowers are not super important to me and everything she suggested I was like "sure that sounds great!".

I met with her as well and you could make changes but once you signed it couldn't go less than 10%.  I didn't really like that rule and ended up going with Flowers by Judy, which is good b/c I did end up making some changes (not for monetary reasons - less RSVPs and therefore less centerpieces, etc.) but it ended up decreasing our contract a good bit.  I am sure she will understand... it all sounds great until you hear how much it costs, then you get to know what you can, and can't, afford.

Colleen definitely told me I could underestimate on my proposal (for example 15 centerpieces when I expect to need 20) to avoid getting caught by the 10% rule. Since we could add as much as we wanted later, that made a lot of sense.
