vendors not returning calls (frusterated rant)

So last week I called a wedding planner my top choice who my catering manager could not give enough praise. I was interesting in hiring her as a DOC and still haven't heard back, it'll be a week tomorrow. Needless to say I don't think I'll be hiring her. Then yesterday morning I called a photographer one that is 2000 below my budget and used to be a staff photographer for the Orange County Register and haven't heard back from him yet either. I have a meeting with another photographer whose work I love but tops out my budget for that item Thursday but now that I know theres a guy out there whose work I also love for 2 grand less I'm not as thrilled about my guy that I have an appointment with.    I'm trying to hire these people you'd think I would get a quick response. If someone were trying to hire me I'd have calling them at the top of my todo list. So anyone who doesn't get back to me in 24 hours I'm not hiring. Is anyone else having call back issues with vendors you thought you wanted?

To not call you back after a week--that's not ok. But I do think you need to give people more than 24 hours. It is serious wedding season right now, and the good people are BUSY. And some REALLY good photographers and planners get hired to go out of state--or even out of the country for weddings. That can make getting back to people more difficult. Or they may have a family situation happening....or may just be on vacation ...who knows? Have you emailed them as well? Try to follow up with an email. A lot of times it's easier for people to email in response than call. Sometimes you also have to meet with quite a few vendors in one area before finding one you want. I met with 4 florists, and I think I talked with 2 or 3 more on the phone before I picked one--and flowers were not even on my priority list! I know it's annoying when people don't respond, but they are way busier than we know right now. try email. If that doesn't work, come back here for more suggestions on who to contact!

Ok 24 hours is probably pushing it with it being busy I just want to check things off my list and not be scrambling around the holiday season when everyones busy with family stuff, my FI work scheduale is not the easiest to work around to scheduale appointments with vendors and I'm a brides maid in a wedding the first weekend in September so I have stuff schedualed over the next month with that as well and did I mention me and FI have a 2 and half year old togeather so a babysitter also comes into play with meeting with vendors. I worried by the time I find the right vendor for what I want and scheduale a meeting with them they're going to be booked for my date.   I just recieved an email from another photographer I liked actually you recomended her Alex Oats so at least I'm going to be meeting with 2 photographers now :)

I experienced a similar issue with The Abbey Catering. When we first started looking at getting married (September of last year), I started trying to contact vendors to get an idea of what the costs would be, so that we could set up a budget. I sent an email to The Abbey Catering, explaining that I worked graveyard shifts, and could not receive phone calls during the day, as I slept during their business hours. However, they could email me back or call my fiancee, who would be willing to get back to them asap or could speak with them during their business hours. Two weeks later, and I hadn't heard anything.I finally put a call in, and they said, "Oh, well, we SENT you an email about this...Maybe it went into your junk mail folder...""Not possible. I have no spam filters set up with your name, and moreso, I work for Cox Communications IN their Internet dept. I know how the email and spam filters work with our system."After that, even though they were several hundred dollars less than Personal Touch, I didn't want to deal with them in any way, shape, or form. They couldn't be professional, what's going to happen on the wedding day?I think that 24 hrs is a little hasty for turnaround time, ESPECIALLY right now during wedding season, but if you're waiting a week or more for response, it's probably not a good sign.

I think you will be very happy with Personal Touch, that is who we are using and they are very good about communication. I work at my venue Coronado Community Center and our facilities staff said they were one of the best . I agree if a vendor does not have time to call how can you trust they will be communicating in the end when it is vital.
