Chicken, fish, veggie lasagna?

I have a question and want your opinion. Our reception venue has allocated 2 plated dinner options for our price range. I was thinking the first option will be some type of chicken. Simple and basic. For the second option, for those non meat eaters, should I go with a delicous fish option or maybe a veggie lasagna option?what do you think?

Re: Chicken, fish, veggie lasagna?

  • I would go with veggie lasagna because some people don't eat meat or fish.
  • Maybe you happen to just have friends that aren't fans of red meat, but I know the non meat eaters in my life wouldn't eat fish either.

  • veggie lasagne   Why did you delete earlier?
  • My best friend is a vegetarian and would not eat fish. Her rule is that if it used to have a face she won't eat it. Therefore I would choose the lasagna.

  • veggie lasagna. I think it pulls in more of a variety of likes.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

There was a good 30 minute gap before you reposted. TK is being dumb lately though. What I had posted the first time was that fish is meat, so many vegetarians won't touch that either. Go with the veggie lasagna.

Our vegetarian option was stuffed portabello mushrooms.

  • We had a veggie lasagne.  We also served a few meat dishes.  It was buffet style and the lasagne was the first thing to go.  Only 2 of our guests were vegetarians.  The rest of them are hardcore meat-eaters, but that lasagne was delicious.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • Mmmm....lasagne.
  • most of the venues i looked at let you pick your regular meat/fish dishes, with the option of a veggie or kosher dish just for those that needed it- allowing you to still have a meat and fish while being able to accommodate everyone. why dont u ask your venue if they will do that? usually they just need to have enough food to make only a couple of those special requests and they wont charge you extra.

  • For the second option, for those non meat eaters, should I go with a delicous fish option?uh, why would you do that?  you realize fish is meat, right?
  • We are doing chicken cordon bleu, meat lasagna and baked haddock. Our venue does offer other choices (on top of the 3 that we have picked) for vegetarians or people with allergies. Since there are so few people that will choose a vegetarian dish, we are just telling them that if they are coming, there are other options for them avaialable.
  • The venue offered two choice but said they would also accommodate those who wanted a vegetarian meal.  Guests were then give three options,  beef, seafood, or vegetarian.  The vegetarian option was a roasted vegetable napoleon with cheese.
  • anyone had or having any other type of veggie options?First of all, thanks for being considerate and thinking of your vegetarian guests :) I think veggie lasagna is tasty and will be a crowd-pleaser. If you're open to other options, though, it can be nice for a vegetarian to have a slightly more high-protein option. Depending on how open your venue is, you might want to check and see if they could put TVP crumbles in the lasagna (also known as veggie crumbles or burger substitute, TVP is high-protein and is frequently used as a substitute for group beef in chilis and lasagnas). It's not at all necessary, but it can be a nice above-and-beyond gesture :) If you use it, make sure you have a little sign indicating that the veggie lasagna has fake meat in it, or people might get nervous!
  • I know I'm a bit late on this, butFISH IS NOT VEGETARIAN - AT ALL.Anyone who claims to be vegetarian and eats fish is in fact a Pescetarian. They also *uck things up royally for the real Vegetarians.Sorry for the yelling, but that is my biggest pet peeve in the world. I just do not understand why some people think vegetarians eat fish. Seriously, when did fish cease to be an animal? I'm pretty sure they didn't fall into the plant kingdom when I wasn't looking.Okay, I'm done.

  • We did chicken and veg lasagna. If you go with fish, it smells. And even though someone is eating veg lasagna - that person and everyone else will smell the fishy fish. It's weird. Don't get the fish.
  • Defintely veggie lasagna. I'm a meat eater and would choose this. Yumm-o! :D
