    I don't take much issue with the idea of requiring visas of people from these countries.  I do however feel sympathetic about how these new regulations were put in place without any forewarning.

    I agree with you; this wasn't commentary on the rule itself... it was just sad that the way it was implemented left people at the government's mercy.

    That really sucks... I don't understand why they didn't give everyone a heads-up that the rules would be changing.

    I agree that they should have allowed a grace period for people who would not have time to meet the new regulations.  I hope things work out for them for the better.

    That is sad. These new visa restrictions came out of nowhere - no warning. You'd think people would be more sympathetic. Mind you, I'm not sure about the level of intelligence of some of the commentators. One seemed unaware that Hawaii is in the US.

    85% of the time reading the comments in the Toronto Star hurts my head, and this was no exception.  Did these people even read the article?  The point isn't whether or not Canada should require visas, but that the government suddenly decided to enforce this rule with no warning, ruining the couple's wedding and honeymoon.  You have to be pretty hard-hearted to not feel at least a tiny bit bad for them.I feel terrible for your friend, ring_pop.
