Dress shop advice

I am flying into NY from Norway to find a dress (wedding is in VA, where I am from) at the end of August. I am going to try to cram all the dress shopping into one short weekend. Therefore I am attempting to be super organised and prioritize the right dress shops. Easier said than done...... Can anyone give me any advice on which shop is a better bet for a girl with simple taste and style? - not really a lace or frill or train fan - just classic - jcrew style really. Bridal Reflections Wedding Atelier RK Bridal RK Bridal has stacks of choice, but the whole "do-it-yourself" concept and the hoards of people on a Saturday morning is daunting. On the other hand, I've read really mixed reviews about the other two and there are some really complicated dresses on their websites -- is it more simple in the shop? I have some other appointments already, so I can only choose one of the above. All advice is appreciated!!! 3800 miles is a long way to travel just to end up in the wrong places!!

I got my dress at Bridal Reflections, and they were great, very easy to deal with, the bridal attendant that helped us was fantastic, and they don't rush you at all.

I had a great experience at Bridal Reflections.  I also shopped at Wedding Atelier and really liked it there.  I felt like there were more choices at BR, though.  Also- consider going to Pronovias, they have a ton of choices.

You should also check out the Vineyard collection at Priscilla of Boston - simple cuts, minimal embellishment, but still great quality and relatively inexpensive . .  . and shopping at Priscilla of Boston is a nice experience - I had a lovely time and I've never heard a report to the contrary.

I would also check out Adrienne's on the lower east side.   It's a really nice small place with a lot of simple, modern dresses.

Thank you for all the good tips -- glad to hear so much positive things on Bridal Reflections and Wedding Atelier.........no mention of the RK Bridal -- I'm guessing I should skip it!

Bridal Garden -- great prices and I found most of the dresses to be simple but gorgeously made

I went to Priscilla of Boston last week and was pleasantly surprised by the selection. I think its worth a trip if you have time and its more relaxed than the shops that carry multiple designers.I've also heard great things about Adrienne's, but I've never been.

If you have J Crew style then you should go to J Crew. You can make an appt to try on their wedding line at the Rock Center store. I really liked their dresses. I hated Bridal Garden when I went there. The service was terrible. I ended up getting a Vineyard dress at Kleinfeld. I know they can be very hit or miss but I had a wonderful experience. Barbara is super nice, no pressure and stayed within my budget.

Selia Yang!!Selia Yang!!Selia Yang!! I STILL daydream about all of her beautiful simple designs!!! Her shop in the east village sells her dresses at a fraction of the cost if budget is a factor. The store in Tribeca is full retail so I'd skip that one. Seriously check out her website. I would say 99% of the dresses on the site are at her store in the east village for less than half price. Looovvvve selia yang!!

I've been to RK as a bridesmaid 3x and purchased my own gown there in December. I had a pretty good experience buying my gown because, knowing how that place is on the weekends, I went on a weekday morning. Personally, I would not shop there on a Saturday or Sunday. It's a zoo and I think you would feel rushed. I've heard great things about Adrienne's on the Lower East Side.

Oh shoot I forgot about Selia Yang! Yes, I definitely second that rec. Her stuff is so simple and elegant. Sample store is on E 9th btw 1st and 2nd and the best coffee in the city is across the street (MUD).

Thanks so much for the tip on the JCrew store! I had no idea it was possible to try on their dresses - I'll definitely be stopping there! I am assuming Rock Centre is Rockafeller Centre..... The Selia Yang dresses were beautiful, without doubt - however, probably over my budget, unfortunately. These are just fantastic tips! I am excited to get to the city and get started!

Yup, Rockefeller Center. You should call first and get an appointment. I don't think they take walk-ins for the wedding dresses.
