DJ around $1,000 or a little above?

Is it possible to get a good DJ and MC that interacts well with the crowd for around $1,000 or a little above? or is my budget waaaay off on this one! I swear when I had a sweet 16 my Dj was soo not this expensive!only got prices so far from Paul Anthony and WOW super expensive! I have appointments with Dash of Class and Magic Moments. Waiting to hear back from DJ Delight (they did my sweet 16)ahh this was so not in my budget!

Check into Elite Entertainment in Eatontown.  I am having Dominic do my wedding and am paying $1450 (300 off for Friday wedding).  I have been to several of their weddings/affairs and they always do a great job.

I'm not sure what mine would charge, depending on what you want, but he was really reasonable! Anthony Gelo at Good Times Productions: goodtimesdjnyc.com

I'm using Fantasy Productions. Their prices should fit your budget. (fantasydjs.com) I read good reviews before booking them, and my first meeting with the DJ, Bob, was really good.

I'm using Fantasy productions too. You're the first other person I've seen! lol Bob Albrecht from Fantasy DJs was highly recommended to me. www.fantasydjs.com I'm paying $1095 for MC and DJ.

I am using Touch Of Class they did my brothers wedding and were great. I have a larger package with slideshows lights and plasmas but I believe they start at $1200 for dj & MC for a reception. The pricing is on their website www.tocdjs.comalso if you go to weddingwire.com there are a lot of reviews for lots of dj companies

I second Touch of Class, I'm using them for videography and Mary is awesome to work with!! Her husband does the D.J. part of it and I'm sure they are reasonably priced. I'm using Craig Scott entertainment and they start at around 1200.  They also came highly recommended.

Piggybacking on this post (if you don't mind, Rebecca): Are any of these DJs people you would recommend for us, if we just want someone to play the music we like and make minimal announcements? We don't want props, giveaways, lights or anything like that.

I didn't use them but Golden Note starts around $1200.  I would check them out.

mbcdefg - I would absolutely recommend Fantasy DJs and Bob Albrecht.  This is why we booked him. My best friend's sister used him and said he was awesome. Had everyone dancing, but wasn't always on the mic.  When I spoke with him over the phone, he told me he is more of the type that doesn't like to make too many announcements and such. The price of $1095 was for him and a DJ....no giveaways, light shows, etc. We didn't want any of that.  Give him a call, he's really super nice, which is why I booked him on the spot. I got a really good vibe from him.

I'm using Colorblind Productions.  Definitely all about the music.  They are not interactive.

mbcdefg - Anthony is GREAT about not announcing a lot or getting too involved in the proceedings. Basically, he handles it however you want; if you want him to talk a lot, he will. If you want him to stay back & play the music, he will. And while he *will* do the giveaways and stuff for people who want it, we didn't want it and he left it out. In essence, he was *precisely* the DJ we wanted.

We're using mixmaster djs and are paying 1000 even for reception & cocktail hour music, lights, and glowsticks and crap like that.. Dave is our dj and so far he's been great to work with and he seems like he'll definitely interact well with our guests.
