DOC

I am trying to get pricing on DOC. But every event planning company keeps telling me...'everyone event is different so I wouldn't know your pricing until we sit down and discuss your needs/wants...when do you want to set up a meeting.' I personally feel they are just tying to get me in to 'sell' me.Since most of you girls either have had/or will have a wedding planner...what is the average cost of DOC (just so I have a general range before I 'get sold').Thanks soo much!

they should have a base pricing at least but perhaps they are just trying to inform you on all of your options and not necessarily trying to sell you ad on's you don' t need

Don't listen to TXsizelove, she's a vendor. They are trying to sell you more than you may want or need. Just know what you want and stick to your guns if you go in to meet with any. Like all sales people they will pressure you like crazy!

Hi, I've been getting DOC quotes anywhere from $500 (those who are just starting out or if they do it hourly) to $1500 for the more experienced planners. $1000 seems to be the average/typical. The highest quote I got was $2300 for DOC, but she's one of the planners featured in D Magazine and such all the time. So hopefully you won't get any quotes more than that! I'd recommend that you look at someone who does it as their full time job (or at least doesn't have another full time job), isn't affiliated with any vendors (I know DJ's, even caterers will offer "event coordination" services, but you really need an unbiased coordinator), and doesn't give you a time limit on the day of the wedding (so if you book the hourly ones, make sure you book enough time). Hope that helps!

Everything that I have read about DOC's is that they're about 10% of your wedding.  That's why they say every wedding is different.  It also has to do with how involved your wedding is.  If you were having the most elaborate wedding, then $200 doesn't really seem fair for the amount of work that they'll do that day.I would second the comment about TXsizelove and leave it at that.

Haha rcpm and julie! You will have to meet with them, because every wedding is different. You just need to know what you need and how much you can spend. Stick to it. It's hard, but you can say NO!

I am simply just looking to get information from these vendors (wedding planner) pacakges & 'average' start off price so that I can review their packages, pricing, other peoples reviews and narrow down to a few I will meet with... So far...thanks for those of you who gave me a general idea! Helps a lot!

I would just meet with them. After all, if you don't you wont know if your personalities click. I know it takes time, but this is a pretty important event, so I made time. Just be honest with yourself and with them. If they are too much then they are too much....

I agree with JennDodd.  Someone may you give you a great price but if you don't think you could work with them then there are going to be some misunderstandings.

If you want to narrow down your list to those you'll actually have a meeting with, ask for reviews on here or look on weddingwire.com You'll begin to hear the same names again and again, and those are the ones worth looking into.

It IS going to vary, and as long as you go in knowing your budget and what you'd like to have for your money, just try not to let anyone bully you; stand strong in what you can do and what you want. And people, leave TXSizeLove alone -- she wasn't wh0ring out Tony Valadez on this one, and her input is just as valid.

I agree with Mandy. I do think it's important to actually meet any vendors you could possibly hire face to face.  If your personalities don't mix, then there will be problems down the road for you.  I don't think it hurts to meet with people just to get an idea of their price and their personality.  And like Jenn said, if they're too expensive for you-let them know and don't waste theirs or your time and end the meeting.

They probably want to know your overall budget for your wedding so they can give you a price. If your having a expensive wedding, than I am sure their price will be a little higher as to somebody who will have a less expensive wedding, I am sure they would quote her on her needs only. But they might just show you pictures from other weddings and show you what they can do. Than you will say oohh and aahh! LOL

I agree that total wedding planning packages are usually different based on your total wedding budget, but Day-of-Coordination services are usually pretty stable for a planner unless you're having a lot of extras.  I didn't have problems getting a base quote when I specifically asked for "Day of" services. Now if you're looking for planning packages above that, it will be varied.

to the OP: Wendy Kidd (a wedding planner) does these free information sessions about "what to look for in a wedding planner" and "what wedding planners do" etc, I went to one and it was really informative, not too much marketing for her own services.  Plus there are some other vendors there to give you their perspective on why to hire a coordinator (like what kind of weddings need it the most).

i'm a vendor and just because a wedding planner wants to meet with you doesn't mean they're trying to upsell you on services - planning and coordinating packages vary according to several factors - i don't charge the same for a wedding of 100 as i do for a wedding of 250 - i don't charge the same for a wedding at an all inclusive venue like a hotel or country club as i do at a DIY venue like Winfrey Point - typically, daytime weddings are less work than evening weddings - there are a lot of factors that weigh into my labor coststhat said, a wedding planner or DOC should be able to give you a ballpark so that you don't waste your time (or theirs) meeting with someone who is out of your price range - $1000 is the average starting range for a DOC in the Dallas area
