Q&A 2/10

We haven't had one of these in a while... so why not?

Its tax refund time!  Where did yours disappear to?  or how will you be spending (or saving!) it?

Re: Q&A 2/10

  • Mine disappeared into our kitchen... FH bought the house in 2009 and had to purchase a range and a fridge, so those were stainless... but the microwave was white and the dishwasher was black... it was a lot to look at.  The dishwasher wasn't living up to its name.  The microwave was also original to the house (built 1992) and had started just running non-stop... we had to leave the door open to turn it off!

We went last weekend and ordered a new dishwasher and microwave, got them installed yesterday!

Please excuse the pile of dishes in the sink, we removed the old dishwasher ourselves and they collected for a day or two.

Next up in our kitchen, new cabinet hardware, new counters and a sink!  Floors are going to have to wait.
  • Ours will be going into savings to save (hopefully) for a down payment on a house. We are hoping to start looking this summer. Cross fingers!! :)

  • We haven't filed our taxes yet but I'm pretty sure that money will be going towards paying for the reception venue. It might end up being our 'tipping' fund for our vendors.

  • ours is going to all the little wedding things..etc bridal party gifts, parents gifts, our rings, my hair and makeup....and other little things i think of along the way. Wish i could go on a shopping spree!! :)
  • Mine is going straight to wedding vendors and the credit card bill that is paying for the wedding.
  • I don't even know if I'll get anything back! I filed for the one that takes the least amount of taxes out of each paycheck.  I've never gotten used to the whole tax return "payday" thing so I personally like having it in my account as soon as I earn it!

  • Mine will be going towards the wedding.  I'm going to surprise Trent with having a photobooth there...that's the one thing he's been super excited about (until he found out how much it was going to cost).

  • We filed and every last PENNY is going to the wedding :(  It makes me sad since I usually pay off CC bills from the holidays and do something fun for my house.  I guess wedding gift money can go to that!   We need some work done at my house (drywall and stucco) and want to get new couches too. So I am hoping it all works out in the end!

  • Ours will be going towards the kitchen appliances we purchased for our new home.  As did last years (FI was deployed so we didn't file until November and got the refund in December).
  • Mine will be going to pay off a credit card I had put some wedding stuff on. Anything else I am going to save.

  • Mine is going to pay off the little bit left on my Credit Card, the rest is going into savings :) And for fun money for the honeymoon!

I'm pretty sure we have the exact same set of appliances. Are they Fridgidaire Gallery? I can't tell :)

To answer the question, though, ours is paying for our entire HM. :)

FI paid off the last few dollars he owed on my ring, and the couches. The rest we put in savings. We're looking at fixing both our vehicles (we both need new brakes.)  And then maybe a little for some honeymoon excursions. But the rest we want to sit on..

Oh, and an extra principal payment on the house.

<div>Nope.  The fridge and range FH bought are Kenmore and the new microwave and dishwasher are Whirlpool.</div>
  • Um... yeah.  I'll be owing this year.

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • I'm sure ours will be going to the honeymoon!

It's going towards the honeymoon (mainly money for food, souvenirs, and some excursions, we've already paid for the flights, train, and the flat we're renting).  Any we have left, along with any wedding money, is going to go towards furniture.  I really really want a dining room set, with a china cabinet.  Oh and a flat screen tv.  We got a blu-ray player for Christmas and I haven't even bothered to open the box yet, my tv is old and I don't see the point of connecting it right now.

There was another thing we wanted but I can't remember what now.  Maybe a new couch.  Mine is only 5 years old but it sucks.

I filed mine last night and FI is filing his this weekend.

I think we're pretty much set for our final venue payment. We may have to use very little of our refunds for the wedding, but I don't think it's too likely. Some will be spent on the HM, but most will go into savings because we want to sell our home and buy a new one within the next 6 months or so.
