I am also struggling with making a decision on DJ entertainment as the price can vary so much and all I want them to do is play music so how different can they be??  I have looked into Midwest Sound and Light as well.  I heard they are decent and are reasonably price.  I meet with a guy there and he was really nice.  He was ofcourse not the DJ I would get but they have around 30 that once you fill out the form on what you are looking for in a DJ and the type of couple you are they match you up.I photographer I met with said they pretty goo and my banquet manager recommended them.  I word of advice my banquet manager gave is he said you don't need to spend 1,500 on a DJ.  He has heard a lot at my location before and can't really tell the difference between a 600 or 1,500.  Some people may disagree and think that getting the high price DJ is worth it but I am having a hard time justifying the most expensive DJ.  Good luck on your decision.  I need to make up my mind soon too!

Yes, we met with Midwest Sound and Light and they spoke about catering to the music we want played. The man we met with seemed nice and just like you, he told us he wouldn't be the dj at our wedding but there are lots to choose from. The other nice thing about them is they are running a Friday wedding special of $500 for dj entertainment for the night- it is hard to pass up that price. We want to go with them to save money but want to make sure they can do the job for us... I have heard horror stories from past weddings regarding bad dj's. Any other feedback on Midwest Sound and Light?

We are using, as well as another friend of ours, Midwest. I had seen them at two other weddings and they did a great job! Both were different DJs at each. Once of their forms does as what type of DJ you would like so they are able to pick a good fit for your needs.

I am not using them because from what I remember they were not getting good reviews around the time I was booking. Sound by Design though always gets good reviews. I kind of wish I would be using them now.

We went with Music on the Move Plus and had Anquion, "Q", as our DJ and he had everyone out of their seats doing the Cupid Shuffle to get the night started off right!  He is great to work with and can make anything happen!

To me, reception music and entertainment is VERY important.  Without good music, you won't have a good party.  You need someone that knows weddings and will get your guests dancing.  That makes for a better overall reception and better photos. We went with Sound By Design.  They come highly recommended on this board and also two of our good friends used them.  They were fantastic at their weddings and kept the crowd dancing all night long.  We were really impressed with their approach (non-cheesy and personalized).  They're not cheap, but not terribly expensive.  But with a dj I truly feel you get what you pay for.  Just my opinion.  Good luck!

We used BB's Best, and he was by far one of my best vendors.

I used SBD and to this day, was probably THE BEST vendor we had.  Well worth the money.FWIW, I never understood people taking their chances and saving $300-$500 by booking a lesser known or iffy DJ.  IMO, a DJ can make or break your wedding and we couldn't justify spending all the money we were for the wedding, only to save $300-$500 and have a crappy DJ.

My DJ rocked.  My goal was no dancing and we came close.  Other than our 2.5 minute first dance, there was not more than 2 minutes total of guests dancing.  Thank God.  It would have distracted them from the booze.

Mo, were you really going for no dancing or am I missing your subtle sarcasm?  :)I actually think your setup was perfect.  I know it was a lot of work, but if I had to do it all over, I would go that route.  But of course, I'd hire a DOC to do all the work for me.  Oh wait....you did.

I was being a little sarcastic when I said I was *aiming* for no dancing, but I knew our crowd - not a dancing bunch.  At all.So when I made our playlists, I mixed in a few dancy fun songs here and there just in case, but I was definitely NOT expecting anyone to dance.  Of course my MOH was the ONLY one who danced and of course pouted when no one else would dance.  She really wanted to bring Sexy Back I guess. Also, we purposely chose the shortest song we could for our dance. If it was a bigger crowd that we could have spent a little more on, things would've been different.  I'm content with how it was though.

You get what you pay for, and I have NOT heard anything good about Midwest Sound.  Terrible equipment, inexperienced DJs, etc.  The 3 best are All-Star, DJ's Unlimited, and Sound By Design.  All are higher-end for a reason.  You can't have quality and cheap at the same time.  There's nothing wrong with cheap, but I've seen too many of my friends get burned with crappy DJs for $500!

Sound Sensations- great!  Good price, nice folks, fun!, travel cost no added on (based in....Oshkosh I think).  Let me know if you decide to go with them.  They have an incentive program.
