New to Boards! (Kinda Long)

Hi everyone,Just stopping by to introduce myself. My fiance and I are going to be getting married in 2010 and have been scheming since last August on what to do for our wedding (we have been the Vegas route, the get married back home route, the destination wedding route, the hey this funky donut shop does weddings! route, etc etc). We live in Portland so Seattle seemed like a good middle ground for us and our traveling families and friend to congregate, and we're actually EXCITED to be planning the wedding in your awesome city! A good sign that good things are coming.We are in stage one, so any advice (on anything) would be great, but I'll surely be lurking around and posting more as we start getting underway.And good luck with your own planning :)PS- sorry I don't use cool abbreviated lingo- I'm a little inept.

Congrats! Kelli's Creations makes some AMAZING looking cakes (I've heard they're equally delicious, but have yet to do my tasting) at a reasonable price. There are lots of people here who are willing to help you find everything you need once you decide you need help!

Hello & welcome! FI and I love Portland (he actually proposed on the Burnside Bridge last 4th of July)! How many guests? What season? Budget? Basic info like that can help with suggestions.

. It's good to have people at the source. We've got literally NOTHING so far, but I will surely be back and posting with a ton of questions as we start looking into stuff. We are thinking of a smaller guest list (about 60-70 people will probably be there) with a 10-15K budget (most of which we want be spend on food, because we love to eat). Probably a more "downtown city" feel to to the reception and ceremony. I think it's highly doable! I am so hopeful and unjaded at this point. :)FI wants to do something downtown, so we're thinking a restaurant (again clueless because, well-- we don't live there!). He was interested in the Alexis Hotel because his brother had recently stayed there and liked it. Not sure if anyone has used them or has experience with them, but we tend to like the Kimpton hotels for the rooms, not sure about food/private parties.Thanks everyone!PS- I want cake nowPPS- Burnside Bridge...represent! That sounds cute! By the Made in Oregon sign? We used to live on Burnside back in our early days.

That guest count on that budget is doable. You should check out Lake Union Cafe. Not really downtown per se, but very nice retro feel, I enjoyed talking with Dann (yes, 2 "n"s), and reasonably priced considering what all is included. http://www.lakeunioncafe.com/ A popular place for weddings. There's also Court in the Square which is really cool, but I've heard the guy who runs it is kind of a douche. :P There's also the Chinese Room at Smith Tower, Sorrento Hotel, and I know I'm spacing on a few more. And no, actually (at least I don't think so) we were in the middle of the bridge waiting for the fireworks show to start.

We did have dinner at the Portland City Grill beforehand - awesome views!

There's also Hotel 1000 downtown. It's right across the street from the Alexis. It made the top two for our list, but we went in a different direction. They were great to work with while we were considering it. They were very helpful, quick with responses both by email and phone. It's super modern, if that's the look you are going for (& if not, you can rule it out right away

). The food is spectacular too. It's all prepared from the restaurant in the lobby, BOKA, which is one of our favorite Seattle restaurants. Congrats and good luck!

Welcome! I was a planning bride two years ago and still post/lurk---the knot is like that. :-) I went to a great wedding at the Palace Ballroom in Seattle. NO idea what it costs but it was a great wedding. Wow, you guys are quick and helpful! Date will hopefully be sometime in June/July 2010 (long story that involves a groomzilla and an Alaskan cruise). Well, just a groom with a plan. We'll just have to see when the venue we like is open. Heck, we'll push back to 2011 if we have to. I'll start looking into to the other places listed. Lake Union Cafe and Hotel 1000 seem promising...AND I'll start perusing the Seattle Bio for some other vendors too :)Thanks for all the suggestions. I have to breathe and take it all in for a minute. We have a lot of researching ahead of us...

I got engaged a year ago (come August), so we have a lot of details kind of decided over the past year, but just putting them in place now. Everyone has been so helpful with suggestions. I was doing some hardcore sleuthing last night in my PJs.
