Poll: Long or short BM dresses?

My girls say they want a long dress because it going to be late Nov but they keep picking out short styled dresses. I don't care either way as long as they are comfortable and happy... but it made me curious cause persoanlly I always like short dresses more (the chance to wear it again!) So Poll ... Long or Short?

Re: Poll: Long or short BM dresses?

  • I prefer the way short dresses look. However, my BMs wore long.  The reason was it was January... and chilly - and everyone agreed the long looked more appropriate.
  • I prefer short. I'm just not a very "formal" person, though.

  • I tend to prefer short.  If it is in winter, then long makes sense, but if they are comfortable in short, go for it!I wanted my girls initially to wear long dresses because of the formality of the event, but ended up going short in a dressy fabric so they'd look like chic cocktail dresses.
  • Ditto apple, but like others I let my bms pick.

  • I've always been a fan of short styles because of my height. It seems like long dresses are always too short on me and don't sweep the floor like they should, so I either have to suck it up and look like I'm getting ready to walk through floodwaters, or order a size up and alter the hell out of it. Something to consider if you have tall gals in the bridal party!

  • I don't really like the look of most long BM dresses. And they often seem out of place to me except in very formal evening weddings.
  • Sorry for the post and ditch .... friend just called me to tell me the 'chest cold' her dad had threw her wedding is Lung cancer ... its mangable though. We're just both a little taken back even though we had a feeling thats what it was To answer the questions, Buffalo New York in November ... Honestly if it was like this past year it would be 50 and a bit chilly or we could have 5 feet of snow !! Ceremony it self is a pretty formal the reception is formal in style but we have a live band that everyone will dance to (since we do every time they play at bar) I don't care either way I know wearing again isn't that likely but I have a few, just more so comfort. I was just suprised by their choice!
  • Short. It doesn't matter how cute BM dresses are, when they're long it's much harder to find opportunities to wear them again, IMO.
  • I prefer short and mine are short.  If they keep picking long just make sure it is a style that they can shorten later for possibly re-wearability :)
  • Short. And 3 of my 4 girls picked out their dresses, the 4th one was OOT, so she just got what the others did.
  • my feels are that 99% of the time, you're not going to re-wear a bridesmaid dress.  Short or not.  So go with what best represents the feel of your wedding.

My girls wore long (they picked them out because they were similar to mine), but I prefer to wear short when I'm a BM.

I prefer short. I have only been a BM once, and we had long dresses, and I wasn't a huge fan. They weren't ugly, just not really my style.  I did get to wear it again, though, to a prom-themed sorority formal.

  • They are wearing short dresses, but that's only because my wedding is in California in July. I think they would melt from the heat if they were in long dresses.
  • I wanted short, but FI had his heart set on a tuxedo with tails, thus our wedding is going to be more formal and the ladies are wearing the same dresses just ordered in long instead of cocktail :)
  • I had no preference between short and long and since our wedding is early October in NC the weather could accommodate either of the two.  I have 3 ladies standing with me and 2 of them requested long dresses because they don't like the way that they look in short dresses, and the 3rd actually picked out and fell in love with the long dress we ended up with...so it was all gravy.I think it depends a lot on season, location of the ceremony/reception (indoors or outdoors), and the time as well.  I have been to a wedding with incredibly formal long dresses at a 1 PM ceremony outside and it just looked a little off to me, but that's just NMS.
  • I have never really seen a long BM dress that I thought looked  nice.   The only time long is required by formality is if its a white tie wedding. (which no one should have, IMO).
  • I've picked out short but I actually prefer longer dresses.  "Short" =/= rewearable.
