Ceremony and Recepction Hall

Hello everyone,I need some advice from wedding experts since I know absolutely nothing about weddings.  I am looking for a venue to hold my ceremony as well as my reception.  Now I want both to be indoors since I'm terrified it will rain on my wedding day.  I am also concerned about the price, It'd be so much more convenient if the place had most of the services included like food, music, etc. I am not a big New Orleans fanatic so I'm more hesistant to pick a place downtown but if the place was right I wouldnt mind. Does anyone know any places for around 10-11K for about 200-250 people?  Right now my top choice is Champagne Palace but I did see a place called The Four Columns in Harvey which I sort of liked because they have a stage, which I want for some weird reason. But I love how Champagne Palace looks and probably am leaning more towards that.  Anyone have any suggestions or places that sort of resemble these two and may work for the price range??

Not quite sure what you mean by "I am not a big New Orleans fanatic"??? :(  Why are you having your wedding here?Having said that, maybe you could look into Cedar Grove Tchoupitoulas Plantation or Southern Oaks.  There are many plantations that offer wedding services.

Well I live here and so do our friends and family. And by that I just meant I'm not a "downtown" fan. I know a lot of people love the downtown setting but I just rather not do it downtown because of transportation issues and most of the venues there do the ceremonies outside. I'm from Kenner so thats what downtown means to me when I say New Orleans. I guess I'm looking for places where you can just go up to and park at, its easy to get to. I wonder if there are places downtown that offer free guest parking?

There are a couple of other places on the Westbank that you could look into.If I had the budget I'd probably go with this one,http://www.royalpalmrestaurant.com/There is also La Maison Creole, http://www.lamaisoncreole.biz/and there's the TCP (where they hold the Zuric Classic every year).  http://www.tpc.com/louisiana/Hope these suggestions help a bit.Oh...and Taravella Manor http://www.taravellamanor.com/Okeydoke...I think that's it... If I remember anything else I will repost.  :)

We booked the Jefferson Orleans North in Metairie, also because we wanted it to be super convenient for our guests to get to and park (and because our wedding is in LaPlace so we wanted it as close as possible).  Every time that we have talked to them, they've had great customer service.  The prices for the reception include an open bar, a DJ, a cake allowance, and other things that I am not remembering right now!  We also looked at Magnolia Plantation out in the Elmwood area.  I went to a wedding there a couple of years ago and I liked it a lot.  Their prices are a little higher, but it was very nice, and it includes most of the things that the JO North does.  Hope that helps!

I am having my reception at la maison creole. The pictures on there website sucks but the recently renovated the ballroom and it looks great. Everything is included(cake, plenty of food, linens, chaircovers, alcohol). The only thing they don't provide is a dj. I have been very impressed so far and the food and cake tasting were great. Oh and there us plenty of parking and it is definatly on your price range...HTH!!!

I was raised on the westbank and we had our rehearsal dinner at La Maison Creole and the food and service were fantastic!  I've also been to several weddings at the Four Columns and the food there is some of the best I've had at weddings, we actually use them for outside catering events.

There is a place in Harahan called The Rose Garden...my SIL looked into that place a few years back.  I went with her there and I thought it was nice.  Also, look into some country clubs...I got married at Colonial and it was beautiful and the food was great.  Chateau Country Club is very nice also...it was just a little too pricey for us.

I also live in Kenner! I had my wedding and reception at The Balcony in Metairie 2 months ago , and it was beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! The food was awesome, Me and the hubby are still talking about how good the food was!..... My guests are still raving about it!!!!!! The service is wonderful, they have the best staff ever! Everyone was really sweet! I had 250 guest on a Saturday and it was $11,500! The Champagne Palace is nice, but the weddings that I've been to, the food was just ok.  Also Southern Oaks Plantation in New Orleans East is very pretty and they have pretty good food too! HTH! GL

Wow these are some great suggestions! Thank you for sending me links and everything! I never thought of looking at the westbank, it wouldnt be too bad! Nor did I ever look into the restaurant type of places but the Royal Palm looks amazing. Thank you all! I think one person said they went to Four Columns and I'm glad to hear the food is good, I may actually go see some of these places soon. Anyone have any suggestions about Champagne Palace? Ever been there? And a lot of people have suggested the Balcony as well, it'll prob be on my list to go see. Oh and one more question, when you go see these places, do you also taste the foods as well? I realize my wedding is 2 years from now so I dont want to do that just yet but I just want to go and see the place overall, do they just do that?

Usually u do a food tasting after you have booked your venue. That's just my experience. Some venues do group food tastings where they invite a large number of brides to try the food. HTH!!!

I have never been to a wedding at Champagne Palace, but I will be a bridesmaid in a wedding there in May. From what I was told by my friend, it's a minimum of, I believe, 300 people, which is about 15K. So, I think it's more than what you're wanting to spend. HTH!

Hm, I got a quote from them and they priced it for 150 or 200 people but they didn't mention there being a mininum. I'd have to call and see about that. I also got a quote from Four Columns and its about 2500 bucks cheaper =/ I guess it'll all come down to going to see these places in person. I'm probably going to schedule them sometime soon, just hope they dont expect me to book right than and there.

I just got married at Southern Oaks and it was a dream come true!!! They were amazing, however for a Saturday night wedding, I think it is around $12,500 now, and I know their prices go up from year to year....but that covers you for 300 people. The food is out of this world! We heard so many guests talking about the food even weeks after the wedding. They do not do tastings though, but you can rest assured it is top notch!  You can do everything there. I would recommend planning to have your wedding out on the front lawn/porch...SOP does everything they can to make sure you can have your wedding outside, if it rains or is going to rain they will move everything inside for you in a matter of minutes (they told us they could do it in 15 min tops!).  It was supposed to rain on our big day so they started us 15 min early.  They provide the DJ, cake allowance (you just have to go to Haydels to pick out your cake), all of the food and beverages. I will rave about them for years to come...Kyle was absolutely amazing, as was Mr Bobby and the rest of the staff, I felt like a queen on our wedding day!

We were married at The Balcony.  With the cost of the ceremony (an additional $500), it was $8300 on a Sunday for 200 ppl.  Price per head was $39.  This was May 2008, so it may have gone up a bit, but it was still a great deal!  Everything was included - all food, wedding cake, open bar, DJ, ceremony set up and take down, nice large centerpieces, etc etc.  We were beyond happy with how it all turned out, how nice everyone was, the food (we heard it was great, but we barely ate) and just he overall level of service.  And like I said, I think we got a lot for the money.  Def. stop by and take a look.I have pictures in my blog a few posts down (the one year anniversary post) if you want to see a few.

I also vote for southern oaks!! Its a little out of my price range but we went to a wedding their last month. Tracy is right the food is really really good. Southern oaks feels real if that makes sense, I didn't feel like I was somewhere plastic and built specifically for weddings. It was nice and of course now I want to have my wedding there.

My friend actually had her wedding at Southern Oak and it really was lovely, however there was one thing I didnt like was that the reception area felt seperated, some of the people were in the seperate rooms and we didnt really see the groom and bride a lot since they visited those areas. And again its outside, which was so pretty with the lights and all but I'd freak about the rain chances. Where do they do the ceremony when it rains there? I'm slowly shying away from my Champagne Palace idea now that I'm getting these suggestions. I actually drove by the other day and it looks so nice but if I can save 2500 bucks for somewhere that people will like than it may be the best choice.

Steph youre pictures are amazing! Who was the photographer? I think the Balcony should use your pictures for their website, that made me look at that place so differently! It looks so nice. Is it roomy?

Tozel -  Thanks!  :)  Yeah I agree - The Balcony should really update their pics to include some more recent real wedding shots.  The site makes it look rather boring, but we felt differently once we went in person -- although I had only been there once (for my senior prom of all things) I didn't consider it at first because I didn't know how I felt when I would look at the pics online.  My MIL kept telling us to go check it out anyway and we finally went.  It didnt feel stuffy at all - def. lots of room -- we had 200 ppl and I know they can accomoate like 400 or more.  I can imagine at 300 it would still feel comfortable.  I personally loved the large dancefloor and the fact that the bar and food were completely out of the way of the dancefloor.  Oh yeah, and our photographer was Matthew Foster.  We really like him and looooved how our pictures came out (engagements, wedding and post-wedding).  He really does an awesome job capturing the event and the emotions and I really feel like our pictures are unique because of it.

I am getting married at the Champagne Palace in exactly 29 days-October 11 and my experience with them so far has been awsome! As far as the places mentioned on the West Bank, they did not compare to The Champagne Palace. Honestly when I visited The Four Columns, the smell of the place made me sick. I didnt see Southern Oaks Plantation because it was just over my price range (which was about the same as yours). Maybe after my actual wedding I will provide another post telling you about my experience!!
